NHS Braces

Hey, around 2021/22 I was reffered to an orthodontist to have my braces fitted in. I could not show up to the appointment. And then when I re booked my appointment I found out that they no longer do braces. Since I have been waiting to be referred elsewhere and I’ve been waiting really long, and turns out my dentist gp do not even know where I have been referred to or what happened to my referral which is unbelievable. I have an appointment soon, and if I ask to be referred to a dental practice, am I still eligible as I will be referred still before I’m 18? Even if it’s a couple weeks? I’m concerned can I still get my free braces?

Dd was on the list for 5 yrs. I was told even if she turned 18 before treatment started she would still get it for free because she was referred before she turned 18.

If you had already been to see an orthodontist and been booked in to have braces fitted and then , for whatever reason, did not keep the appointment and did not re book you will have been deemed to have had a course of orthodontic treatment and any referral done will be rejected.

The appointment I didn’t attend to the same orthodontist when I went on to rebook they told me they actually no longer do NHS braces anymore, and told me they’ve passed on all their patients who are on the waiting lists and referred them elsewhere. So they told me I’m still on the waiting list. And because I’m still waiting, I’m getting concerned on if I’ll even be applicable anymore since I’m almost turning 18. And I’m still on the waiting list.

The problem is you were not on a waiting list , you had had an appointment and didn’t attend.

In general if you do not attend an appointment you are not put back on a waiting list because you have already been offered an appointment and the system will not accept a second referral. I think , perhaps, there has been a miscommunication and I would be very surprised if you were on a waiting list , particularly as it sounds as if it was some time after you missed the appointment that you made contact.

Have you checked with e referrals , or whichever system is in your area if you are on a waiting list? I doubt that you are . Had you actually attended any appointments at the orthodontist or did you just miss the first one? Either way it will be difficult to get back on a waiting list , even if there are extenuating circumstances , even more so if you had attended an appointment at orthodontist .

Wow I didn’t know that, and yes it was some time after I rebooked but at that point they stopped doing braces, and referred me elsewhere apparently. But could you tell me more about e referrals please I could have a look.
