Its been a while but if say you wanted to copy a directory on the c: drive called documents to a directory on the a: drive with the same name, you would type

copy c:\documents\. a:\documents\.

can anyone confirm?

oh bugger
the stars didn't work they just made the dots into bold

copy c:\documents\ . a:\documents\ .

but no space between the * and the .
