Whose chimney is it?

Halls adjoining victorian semi-detached house .. all our fireplaces are on right-hand side (no house there) .. and the chimney above them are perfect

where our house joins with neighbour (lovely neighbour) the chimney straddles both houses on the roof .. however we don't have any fireplaces that side .. its the halls .. so there would never have been a fireplace that side .. but then again there wouldn't be in her house either (confused yet??)

anyway the half over our side needs repointing ... is that our responsibility ?

and why is there a chimney there anyway??

was there a fireplace originally? or is the chimney only for their use? do they use it?

could it have come from the kitchen or palour?

I meant servants in attic may have had a separate chimmney to main house

Have had similar situation in past - if the bit that needs pointing is on your side would be inclined to say is your responsibility, regardless of if chimney used or not. If you don't repair it, it is your house that will suffer water ingress.

Positions of chimneys can be confusing, often don't appear to be anywhere near fireplace in old houses, the flues wind around all over the place.

we have the same problem in that the flashing needs replacing on our neighbours chimney but they wont do it. We have just decided we will pay to have it done as it isnt worth arguing over and our house will suffer not theirs

Cheeky cow the other side has put her ariel on our chimney and has also put her sewer pipe vent thing on our roof!!!!!
