I've started to buy less expensive laundry detergent brands and really don't see any difference in results so why pay more. The cost of high end brands is becoming ridiculous. Do you feel its worth paying more & why?

I'm happy enough with the Aldi own brand. It does a great job for half the price of the branded ones

I use big box powder and mix with soda crystals which softens water and removes stains.

I use unscented washing up liquid for both pots and clothes. Works fine, clothes are clean with no smells of any sort.

Most of them are full of stinking synthetic chemicals. I buy a very lightly scented one that I use in tiny quantities.

I did this and thought there wasn’t much difference, but months later got given a bottle of Persil and it definitely made my laundry smell nicer. So I would say the cheaper stuff is false economy and won’t be going back to it.

I usually get surf or persil bio powder. Lasts a decent amount of time and you can dose as you need it

I just buy whatever's cheapest at the time, which is often something in bulk with a Nectar deal at Sainsburys. I find that I have to switch up the detergent every so often otherwise I go nose-blind to it, and I don't want to go down the route of scent boosters etc.

I find the washing machine (and not over-filling the drum) makes a big difference to the actual cleanliness of the clothes. I used to use a laundry egg and as long as the drum wasn't too full it cleaned just fine - it was like witchcraft. I'd go back to it except I like the smell of commercial washing detergent, as long as it's not too strong!

In a recent Which review, Ecover Bio washing powder scored the best for cleaning (79%), with Method lavender liquid the best of the liquids (71%) and Aldi 3-in1 the best of the capsules (73%).
