Hi I was looking for a bit of advice if anyone has been in ny position i have private rented for 11 years until my landlord put his property up for sale i have to young kids and couldn't afford to pay rent there and save deposit for new place so ultimately I was homless I received temporary accommodation and have been in here for 14 months about 7 weeks ago I was offered a new build house but it wasn't completed so have not viewed it or signed anything other than offer i emailed council to ask if the have rough time as I'm paying a lot for storage they told me all going well the should recive keys back the next week and that handover had been delayed . Has anyone else been in this situation and if so how long till you received keys ? I just have not heard anything until I messaged them and even that didn't get far just told if i can I find stoage for a few weeks. Just worried as I have to rent moving van and can't order fridge etc as I can't get it delivered and wokring full time with 2 kids.here any advice would help thanks

You're on council time I'm afraid, which is the same as how long is a piece of string. But you're really lucky to be getting a brand new house, so as advised I'd carry on paying storage by the shortest increments you're allowed to.

i had a fridge delivered at really short notice last year when we moved, also you can manage a day or two with a cool box if you freeze some camping ice blocks beforehand. Someone who goes camping might be able to lend these if you don’t have them. You might be entitled to a day off work for moving. Congratulations on your new home , I home you and your DC will be really happy there!

Hang in there. If it’s anything like the new council houses in my city. It’ll be beautiful. The houses look amazing

Don’t stress the small stuff . You’ve spent 14 months in temp accommodation, you are nearly there getting your own home again and you’re in a position many families would love to be . You’ll be fine just don’t overthink it .
fridges and washing machines and storage are not important right now . Just breathe … it will all happen soon .
