Help!

I'm being driven mad by BT.

Background:

Last phone bills had several phone calls to a number in Northern Ireland. DH and I don't know anyone in NI and I suspected our cleaner of helping herself to fee phone calls.

Signed up for online account, which has more details of dates and times than paper bill, and found out that the calls are all to the same number, all last 24 seconds exactly and occur every five days like clockwork.

these calls are made when we are out of the house, a lot of the time, and we don't have anyone else coming or going.

I thought this may be some kind of fault on the line, and reported it to BT. At first I was told there was a fault, and I would be refunded the money, but 2 weeks later, the calls are still happening.

I phoned BT again this morning, and was told the line is fine , that I must report it to residential billing.

So called them, who say I must report it to faults. "Residential billing" is clearly a call centre in India, whose staff have to follow a script and who cannot cope with anything out of the ordinary!

The money is not a major worry, it amounts to about 1.50 a quarter; these calls have been going on for at least 6 months! I just don't like being told there is not a fault, when there clearly is, and don't like the implication that I must be lying and trying to defraud them of 40p a week!!

PLEASE is there anyone in the UK I can phone to discuss this with?

Has anyone else come across this problem, if so WTF was it?

I've called the numbers (from work) and I just get a series of beeps at the other end- a bit like a fax machine, but no whistles.

AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!

Try contacting Ofcom. They were fantastic in my run in with BT.

Good luck. I developed many grey hairs getting my BT problem sorted. When I moved house we arranged to take our phone number with us but BT gave our number to Person A and gave us Person A's number. It took weeks to get it sorted because BT decided that this couldn't possibly have happened.
