Hi
when visiting my Nan today there was a child just stood in the middle of the road. While I was getting my children out of the car I requested he come on to the pavement. I asked did he have a grown up, he said I’m with my dad (no adult in sight), I said are you allowed out alone? He said yes, I said how old are you he said 4. I said I don’t think you should be out alone let me get my children out of the car and we will walk you home. He wondered up the road and let himself into his house.

my first instinct was to pop the kids into my Nans and then just knock on to check because if it was me I’d want to know so I could secure my door and stop him getting out (in a non judgey way). My nan said to just stay out of it as long as I saw him get inside safely as you don’t know how people will react to these things.

i never played out as a kid so I don’t know the usual age for these things but it seemed so young. Is there anything I should do? SS or non urgent police report?

I guess it depends where they live. Small village cul de sac V middle of Birmingham.
I mean, I’d not let my 4 year old play out alone, but plenty of people do let their young kids play out on quite streets unsupervised, and neither the police or SS are going to be interested tbh.

She lives in a side residential road off a busy a road. Probably about 30m from the a road. It’s a reflective

that’s fine as long as I’m not being negligent by not reporting further! I understand different children play out at different ages but this child clearly had no road safety awareness and cars where having to stop and wait for him to decide to move.

I have a 6,4 and 1 year old and I can’t imagine letting them play out and I don’t think any of my 6yo friends play out but I could be wrong !
