New nhs dentist

Hi guys just after some advice, my nhs dentist that I’ve been with for years just shut down out the blue, I’ve joined another nhs dentist who also does private and went for my initial first consultation today. I seen my old dentist a month ago just before it shut and he said my teeth were fine. Upon this appointment today this new dentist has told me I need four new fillings and my white crown coming off and replacing with a new white crown. She told me she can only give me silver or if I want another white crown and white fillings all together it’s going to be £1600 even though I’m nhs. I don’t have any pain in my teeth and I’m confused how she’s told me I’ve got 4 holes and yet I’ve got no pain? my old nhs dentist also gave me the white crown free on nhs and also used to do my white fillings free on nhs too? Is she bein unreasonable or am I being paranoid? Thanks in advance x

It’s a very long time since I have been able to find an NHS dentist but my recollection is that they would only do white fillings as standard in front teeth. If you wanted white fillings in back teeth it cost a lot more than the standard ones.

Similarly, you could pay more for a crown made from better quality material.

If your teeth are not causing you any pain, you could leave them for now and hope for the best. It sounds like your old dentist didn’t think anything was urgent. The trouble is that any small cavities will probably just get bigger and could end up costing more in the long run.

I would probably ask for advice on which bit of work was the most urgent, and then prioritise accordingly.
