Hi I’m naturally a dark brown in December I got highlights and it looked lovely I went back in Feb for my roots which has made it look like I have a slight balayage I feel the colour is quite orange and have been debating putting a box dye over it . I would just put a dark brown over ? Would this work does anyone know ? Thank you 😊

Also dark brown, I had blonde and coppery (iirc, long time ago!) highlights one time but did not want to go the the expense and long hours sat in the salon ever again. Box dye was fine, although I picked one a bit too dark tbh. It definitely covered the highlights anyhow.

Be careful. Brown over blonde can go khaki green.

I'd tone the blonde instead to get rid of the orange. Box dye will probably work but will soon wash out if put over bleach

No don't use a dark brown over your hair if it looks a bit orange dark brown hair dyes have reddish hues In them, you need to use ASH BROWN they come in semi permanent or permanent and light ash brown, medium ash brown and dark ash brown .ash brown cancels out red hues. BUT DONT BY CLAIROLS NICE AND EASY. I have used it for years and I use the permanent medium ash brown , but Clairol must of changed their formular because when I bought 2 more boxes and put it on the same way as I always do, I burst into chears after rincing and using their conditioner my hair is now black. It does not suit my complection and I look pale and ill. I will never buy this again. I hope this helps 😁 you could search on line to understand more on how ash brown hair dyes work if you don't want Red , Orange and ginger casts in your hair.

Some years back, I got highlights...which came out grey, rather than the blonde I'd requested.

I bought a blonde box dye and the result looked great. As it grew out, I used a mid-brown box dye and that was fine too. However, a hairdresser has since said that I was lucky.

ETA The previous post has reminded me that I actually used ash brown.

Hi
Me again you could try a hair dye remover but look and read feed back for the best one, but not colorbe4 it works but makes your hair feel likes straw, these work by taking old colour out but it can not take out bleach. 😱🙂

I'm chiming in here instead of starting a new thread, as I'm debating same thing but with different colouring. Natural colour light brown, highlighted quite a light blonde with two different tones, starting to look a little brassy but also very light. About 2 months regrowth and while I love my hairdresser she's not cheap. So I'm considering a box dye though never used before! My question is: can I go a lighter shade than natural hair, or is this risky on the highlights? Thank you :)

I took the plunge and used the L’Oréal excellence hair dye in brown and it’s worked a treat!
Thank you all so much for all your tips and advice 🥰
