Backdated energy bill for 4 years, total amount of £7000, the energy company is trying to apply for a county court claim, been given an estimate of the readings, the £7000 bill is made on the estimated readings, not actual readings, what can i do in this case?.

Have you avoided paying or are these additional retrospective bills? The latter are legally limited.

More context needed here. Did you send readings in, or at least have some record of them? If it is a new bill, rather than one you have been avoiding, I'm not sure they can ask for further back than 12 months anyway.

There was an article on bbc breakfast this morning about this and basically they can't do this. I'll see if I can find a link.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gxwgn035wo.amp

This isn't the link I was looking for but it explains energy companies cannot do this.

Go on money saving expert energy forum and ask there, you might get better more informed advice x

Thank you all for your replies, appreciated. Abit more context I am a landlord. The tenant who has moved out, did not pay the energy bills, so the energy company have sent the bill to me to pay, on the estimated readings and not actuall readings.
