It's ds's first birthday tomorrow and I forgot. I'll have to get him a little something while he's at nursery tomorrow.

In my defence I have kind of wiped the memory of his birth from my mind (dd was in hosp, very sad and scary). That's no excuse. Dh said his dad reminded him the other day, but he forgot to remind me.

Well, I have a blank when anyhone asks me for my kids' birthdates (which causes a stir when flying-as I do a lot-I can tell you!)

Was asked what ds's name was about a month after he was born and had absolutely no idea!The woman who asked backed off, with a horrified look on her face!!

I also used to park and leave him in the car (not for long-honest!)when he was first born, before it struck me that I had a baby.

on my first child's first birthday, both her parents were abroad on business and she spent it at home with the nanny.
we just moved it to the following day.
nanny was rather shocked I must say. but dd didn't care

Oh wait, I have a worst one. Dh started working night the dayb before dd was born. When she was a couple of weeks old someone at work asked him her name. He was so tired it took him a minute to remember.
Dh's grandparents still arent sure of her name and refer to her as the little one. Her xmas card had a perculiar name on it. she's 15 months now!

PPH - DD's 3rd birthday is on the day I go back to school after the Easter hlidays, so we will celebrate her birthday the day before instead. She'll be with grandparents on her birthday, day after, so they'll treat her too - but I have already told them that they must pretend the Monday is her birthday, not the Tuesday!

If it makes you feel any better SP , I got Ds3 birth DATE wrong.

I was talking to my cousin about his birthday (1st birthday too) say it's the 19the blah blah blah and she kind of di a long pause.

"Is it the 19th?" she said " I have it done as the 24th"

reply from me was a variety of ummmmm's and eerrr's. I had to ask DH when it was.

And it is the 24th

Now sp, I thought that leaving the kid in the car was quite common!! (Seriously!)
OK more confessions. Dd is 4-dh has only been around for 1 of those birthdays-abroad at other times. Didn't get her presents until she was 3 (same went for Christmas)
Ds is 6 months-dh wasn't here for his birth!!

Agree with theory that it's YOUR celebration when they're tiny, so if it was a bad time, completely understand blocking it out.

Love that thing about the gp's not being sure of the name. Ah, the 'little one'. SUCH a useful expression!!
(My extended family can't even get dh's name right and he's been on the scene for fifteeen years!!)

well, I do leave kids in the car if I'm popping into a small shop, but it was the implication that you'd forgotten you had a baby that made me laugh.

We made a big fuss for dd's first bday. It doesn't seem fair.

re the gp's, my dad sent DS2 a 1st birthday card that said "Happy Birthday Michael" (he's called Sam") and a 2nd birthday card that said "happy birthday young man".

SP, we made a big fuss on DD1's 1st birthday, but on DD2's 1st birthday we had DD1's 4th birthday party !!!
