Have loads hovering by roof near our back door - wasp man I phoned said he has had 23 calls today about the same! They are apparently queens, looking for somewhere to next....

Praying they don't find somewhere in our house! Anyone else got them?

saw a massive one today, is that what they're doing, very interesting.

Legacy · 07/05/2008 14:32

Oh god, YES - am working at desk in loft and they are EVERYWHERE - trying to find holes to build nests. We had a horror of a nest last year in our eaves, so DH has said he is going to get his 'special fam' out tonight and fill any possible holes up!

Aaaaargh. Hate them.

Legacy · 07/05/2008 14:33

' special foam'

dinny · 07/05/2008 14:34

Legacy - special foam? Where? What? quick!

i thought you might mean 'fan' and that he fans them away from any potential nest sites!

DefinitelyNotMARINAWheeler · 07/05/2008 14:35

Dh killed one an inch long in our kitchen yesterday evening. Horrible

Legacy · 07/05/2008 14:35

Not sure - will ask him & report back! I think it's a hole-filling foam, rather than a wasp-killing foam though IYSWIM

dinny · 07/05/2008 14:36

sorry, somewhere to NEST

I can't understand why they are all in one particular place - wasp man said prob cos it is particularly hot in that place, attracts them

oh, and he said they deliver a whopping sting if angered...

will try and persuade dh to spark up his flame thrower later

We get them every year, onlyu once have we had a nest, but the feckers keep coming.

dinny · 07/05/2008 14:37

ah, I see, Legacy

I killed one in our playroom this morning with a plank of wood - nearly broke the window!

also, get this, got home with some friends after school drop off and garden had all theese huge wasps, plus the cats had left a HUGE dead rat on lawn - NICE!

yeah, I spoke to our landlord and he said he's never yet had a nest here, but they keep trying!

You need one of these see here!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 07/05/2008 14:40

nasty creatures. I hope its not going to be a bad year. Got stung last summer, upper arm swelled and it took 2 weeks for it to go down despite spraying it with anti sting stuff a few minutes after it happened.
nasty nasty horrid things.

TheDevilWearsPenneys · 07/05/2008 14:49

It's odd as I feel sorry for bumble bees and never kill them or force them out of our house.

dinny · 07/05/2008 16:05

I love bumble bees

wasps are just so nasty, they seem to take pleasure in stinging sometimes!
