Hello all,

I thought writing about my experience may be helpful to someone as for me it was hard to find as much information as I felt I needed

I was 12 weeks pregnant when I started having some spotting and wrong cramps. I was admitted to hospital where they couldn't find the actual cause, however as I had 2 large (6cm fibroids) they thought this may be the cause of both the pain and the spotting.

I was sent home 2 days later and was advised to rest in bed. 2 days later as I was sleeping I had a lot of blood. I was again taken to the hospital by my husband as the bleeding wasnt stopping.

The baby was still alive but again they couldn't determine the reason of the bleeding. The next day I did my 12 week scan where they identified possible chromosome anomalies with the baby. Additionally they saw heart anomalies. They did some blood tests which showed high probability of down syndrome. I then did an amniocentesis to confirm whether this was the case and the news were not good.

Due to pregnancy being already dangerous due to the fibroids, the news reg the heart defect and the down syndrome and the ongoing bleeding I was advised to terminate the pregnancy
I was already 14 weeks by then and the doctors advised it wouldn't be safe to proceed with surgical termination. Instead they suggested medical termination and the D &C while in the hospital. I took the first two pills at home which were to stop the production of progesterone. I didn't have any symptoms with these pills- except bleeding which though I already had. 24 hours later I was admitted into a private clinic (I had been informed the pain could be too strong, so I chose to be in a private clinic where an epidural could be given) , after completing all the necessary tests I was given 4 pills (2 by mouth and 2 vaginally) and was advised that the pain would start a few hours later. I had read online that ibuprofen could help with the pain so I had taken 1 prior going to the hospital. Well... The pain started within 10 minutes and honestly speaking it was the worst pain I had ever experienced (they explained it can be more painful if this is the first pregnancy) I felt I couldn't control my brain and I was shaking uncontrollably. I was given an epidural approx 45 mins later and managed to get some sleep. The baby came approx 7 hours later, I then had my D&C and went home the same day. 2 weeks later, I have now fully recovered and started feeling positive again.

For anyone going through this, I wish you strength. Please know when it is all over, you will feel okay again 💓
