Hey all new to this

I rang DLA has I'd not heard anything for 20 weeks . I was told it had been assessed but they couldn't give result over the phone. I said is there any way you could provide any idea of what's happening. The lady was lovely but stated that the letter will be with you soon and all the rates will be in there...

Is this a hint that it's been awarded???

They won’t give information over the phone regardless of approval or rejection, they just say the same line about ‘it’ll all be in the letter’

But in my experience, when granted, the money arrives in my account before the letter arrives in the post.

Just wait for the letter, unless they've said you've been awarded then nobody can say otherwise. Everything you've said is a standard response off them.

In my experience you get the money before the letter.

Kirbert2 · 19/01/2025 22:15

As pp's have said, you will likely get the money if awarded before any letter. They won't tell you anything over the phone.

B2B25 · 19/01/2025 22:20

They will tell you over the phone but instead of pressing 2 to get an update on claim press 4 general enquiries. Loads of people have been told over the phone of rates.

HoobleDooble · 19/01/2025 22:24

I got a text to say my DS qualified, then the money went into the bank the next day and I got a letter a couple of days after.

This was the same with my son too. One day he was healthy and running around, the next day he wasn't. We had to move house because we needed an adapted property for his wheelchair.

We waited 18 weeks. We got in there just before it went to 20+ weeks of waiting.

Hope you get an answer soon, it is so difficult waiting.

LikeEveGotBitten · 20/01/2025 00:01

They've always told me the rates over the phone, but hopefully, your award letter comes soon.

So I rang today as advised by someone who posted and used option 4 rather than 2 and a lovely gentlemen explained everything to me and answered all my questions. It has been awarded so I can now help my child with things needed to aid recovery and issues.
Get payment tomorrow for back date and the next 4 weeks later. Thank you all.

Glad you got your answers and your award.

Remember if you don’t think they’ve awarded the right rate you can always do a mandatory reconsideration.

@Kezzle

Also, sorry to hear about your child. We had the same situation last year, going from having a healthy child to one with pretty intensive care needs completely blindsided us.

Make sure you look after yourself (easier said than done) and try to take some time to process everything in your head.

I'm sorry to hear about your child too. Still getting used to our 'new normal', he had an incredibly long hospital stay and was only discharged a few weeks ago.
