How did you decide your nickname?

I guess the boards will be prety quiet over Christmas, but thought I'd get this thread started now as have been wondering this for ages.
Mine is fairly obvious - I am short! Also the first question I posted was about my rather little ds, so titchy seemed appropriate. What about others? Do you use your initials? Do your nicknames reflect how you see yourself (?Scummymummy o) - by the way this is one of my favourite nicknames! Also SueDonim - very clever!)

A nickname derived from my surname (is that giving much away? - it does start with a 'b' used by the guys at work. I thought it was fairly annonymous because they are all single blokes so Mumsnet is hardly their cup of tea.

cerys · 11/03/2003 16:16

Only just found this thread but thought I'd add to it.
I wanted something Welsh and had recently read an article about Cerys Matthews (ex-Catatonia) when I had to think of a nickname. I did used to go by another name, but cerys is much quicker to type!

breeze · 11/03/2003 16:40

One of my favourite drinks in Bacardi Breezers.

mum2toby · 11/03/2003 16:45

My nickname is very self explanatory... I'm such a bore.

whymummy · 11/03/2003 17:23

i chose mine because it`s my kids favourite two words!!

babster · 11/03/2003 17:57

Mine was dd1's nickname when she was tiny... it doesn't suit me at all, but someone else had my real name and I wasn't feeling very imaginative!

tallulah · 11/03/2003 18:05

Mine's my dog's name! I usually use my cat's name but that was already taken...

EmmaTMG · 11/03/2003 18:10

Guess what?......mines my name and initials......now thats a surprise isn't it!

GeorginaA · 11/03/2003 19:17

Don't worry EmmaTMG, I was unoriginal too

eidsvold · 11/03/2003 19:18

mine is the name of a small country town that I lived in when I was teaching in Australia. I used it for email and knew that no one else would have it!

nerdgirl · 11/03/2003 19:33

Mine is my nickname from work. Got it from knowing tons of useless facts re. song lyrics, Buffy and Lord of the Rings. Basically, I'm a nerd and I'm proud!!

Fionn · 11/03/2003 19:33

Mine's the Gaelic version of my name, so I'm not very well disguised!

sashaboo · 11/03/2003 21:09

'Sasha' because it was the only girls name I could think of when I was registering and 'boo' because that's all DS and I were playing that day!

expatkat · 11/03/2003 21:28

I had the Postman Pat theme song going through my head when I chose my otherwise self-explanatory nickname.

iota · 11/03/2003 21:33

used to use my cat's name - far too unoriginal so found a nice short name for the new year, which is totally unconnected with any other nickname I have ever been know by, as I would hate to be recognised by anyone who knows me

Dannie · 11/03/2003 22:00

Mine's from my late dp's name. Not morbidly, I'm now v happily married, but just in the sense of an alternative identity, and also a tribute -- he'd have really liked ds and dd. And I'm obviously not encouraged to mention him unduly in "real life".

Mocha · 11/03/2003 22:38

Mine is the name of a Gund bear that DP bought me for Valentines Day 2 years ago

NQWWW · 12/03/2003 14:18

Mine is from a documentary I saw long, long ago, about posh people and working class people having relationships. One woman, who had more than a couple of plums in her mouth, said the girlfriend her son was seeing was "NQWWW" - her shorthand for "Not Quite What We Wanted". I loved it and have remembered it ever since (and no, it doesn't really reflect my relationship with my MIL).

tigermoth · 12/03/2003 14:24

like it, NQWWW!

Furball · 12/03/2003 15:53

Mine, makes me laugh, I don't know where/when I thought of it, it's one of those words that made me smile. - Not (Thank-you) because I have hairy legs (see epilator thread) - even though I (did) have

Clarinet60 · 12/03/2003 16:17

Mine is what DH and I call each other. It started by adding Oil onto the end of his name, and as his name has a D in the middle, it ran on into Droile. Before the DSs, the cats used to be called Pussoil, but that's probably too much info .......

bunny2 · 12/03/2003 22:03

Dh calls me Bunny but ti was already taken so I became Bunny2 - havent told dh that my mum used to refer to sanitary towels as bunnies!

SofiaAmes · 12/03/2003 23:52

wow...that's a tough question...just don't quite know how I came up with mine.....

SnoobyKat · 13/03/2003 06:39

Well, DH came up with this nickname for me but we downed so much Burgundy that night that neither of us can remember where it came from but I think it had something to do with my feline tendancy to punch and paw at my pillow, and turn over 20 times before I finally settled down to sleep. Meow.

Pimpernel · 13/03/2003 07:43

I've always liked the idea of being a scarlet lady....so much more exotic than my totally conventional self.

When I explained that to dp he looked blank and said the Scarlet Pimpernel was a bloke, so maybe it's not obvious - made sense to me though!
