How did you decide your nickname?

I guess the boards will be prety quiet over Christmas, but thought I'd get this thread started now as have been wondering this for ages.
Mine is fairly obvious - I am short! Also the first question I posted was about my rather little ds, so titchy seemed appropriate. What about others? Do you use your initials? Do your nicknames reflect how you see yourself (?Scummymummy o) - by the way this is one of my favourite nicknames! Also SueDonim - very clever!)

Well You've out done me there Eulalia -
I've got a sheep kitchen towel holder, a sheep key holder, sheep door stops ( several), obviously a large selection of sheep mugs and a tea pot, sheep egg holders, approx 16 fluffy sheep of various sizes and several more ornamental/pottery ones, NUMEROUS pictures of sheep ( I have litterally covered the study walls by framing all the sheep and cat cards that I get sent as so many people now know of my weakness ), bread dough sheep plaques, sheep book ends and two sheep mobiles!
BUT NO LOO ROLL HOLDER! Am V envious!!!

bayleaf - it was a present. I will ask my sister where she got it. As for my sheep things - well it may take some time to recount them all... various crockery items - mugs, egg cups, glasses, ornaments, candle holder, biscuit barrel, cruet set, tray, mobiles, fridge magnets, money sheep, jewelry, oven gloves, clothes (socks, jumpers, pyjamas, slippers, trousers (but saaaadly these don't fit any more), lots of toys, handbags (Shaun the Sheep and a sheep from Babe), a clock, mirror, nodding Shaun in the car, bookmark, large cardboard cutout sheep at bottom of stairs, lampshade, soaps, wicker basket, doorstop (Shaun), inflatable sheep (with appropriate orifice (not used though I hasten to add!) and lots of postcards and pictures and books. I used to have a lot on my wall at work.

This has also extended to my children who have some sheep clothes, books and toys but I've restricted this as I obviously want them to have their own tastes when they are old enough!

Oh and almost forgot the real thing in a field right next to the house - I can see them from our window.

suedonim · 26/12/2002 23:12

Eulalia, Bayleaf, guess what I had for Christmas???? A rocking sheep!!!!!! She's so cool! She's going to live next to Fernando, my lifesize lamb made of Spanish pine wood, cos I don't think the climate in Indonesia will suit her.

I still want a sheep toilet roll holder, tho'....

bayleaf · 27/12/2002 09:06

Ah Eulalia your list reminded me of several other things that I have that you mentioned that I'd not forgotten - I think dd will have to be employed to do a complete audit of the sheep population of the house when she is a little older as I clearly can't keep count!
We used to be able to see sheep from the window too but sadly the neighbours built a massive extension which completely hides the view .

SueDonim cool!- now I'm envious of you too!!!

pluto · 27/12/2002 09:30

Wanted Star, that was taken; tried Astra but messed up the registration (!) so Pluto kind of continued the astrological theme.

honeybunny · 27/12/2002 13:50

Mines a term of endearment that dh uses for me.... at times!!

ticklebyday · 27/12/2002 14:52

Mines a bit of a laff really - it was a standing joke between a mate and myself when I suffered from REALLY bad morning hair in the early 90's and she (and you know who you are gb) used to say that I had ticklebyday hair - I was a victim of too much hair gel, spray, wax etc.... consequently looking like a bad Peter Stringfellow in the morning.

SoupDragon · 27/12/2002 17:15

I think MotherClanger was taken.

Charliemouse · 27/12/2002 18:01

I have bagged charliemouse - Bagpuss being taken too - it is my reserve nickname for embarrassing posts - will post under it now and hope nobody knows it's me if I ever have to use it...

Eulalia · 27/12/2002 21:42

bayleaf - what is the story behind your name then?

suedonim - is it like a rocking horse? My sister saw one in a shop - a wooden thing that you could sit in but it was really expensive. I do have a small rocking ornament that you push and it's tail goes back and forth.

suedonim · 27/12/2002 23:36

Yes, it's like a small rocking horse, Eulalia. It has wooden rockers, legs and face and the body is covered in fleece so it's all soft and squidgy. 6yr old dd isn't too big for it but I am. It makes a nice footrest, though.

Enchanted · 27/12/2002 23:51

I am so Enchanted by my ds. That was then, he's hardly slept all holiday and is driving me nuts!

bayleaf · 28/12/2002 09:41

It was a nick name when at primary school - but I'm not explaining why as I don't want to compromise my anonimity!

tigermoth · 28/12/2002 09:46

my father flew tigermoths before he flew spitfires in WW2. I thought spitfire was too in yer face, hence tigermoth.

ANonnyMouse · 28/12/2002 11:18

This is fairly self explanatory really...

Rhubarb · 28/12/2002 16:28

I like it! Mine is just because I like Rhubarb, both the cartoon character and the fruit!

mam · 29/12/2002 10:20

Mine was because of a good friend from Sunderland who always refers to her mum as mam and I love the sound! I love accents.

Eulalia · 29/12/2002 11:20

suedonim - I want one! I love rocking horses and a sheep one is even better. BTW your name is one of my favourites!

suedonim · 29/12/2002 12:26

Hehehe, and thanks, Eulalia - I like your name too, it's very pretty.

Lara2 · 29/12/2002 12:56

I changed mine to be anonymous on a thread, and having done some embarrassingly stupid mistakes on the change your nickname page, now can't figure out how to change it back!!!! Can't even remember what they were! How sad is that?!
So, I like this one and shall keep it - did have long hair in a plait aka Lara Croft, and LOVED that Lucozade advert with all the Laras!!! LOL!

CookieMonster · 30/12/2002 09:52

I don't really know why the Cookie Monster came to mind when I was registering .... he's just a character I used to love when he was on the TV ads (and I can't even remember what he used to advertise !!)

clary · 30/12/2002 10:50

Mine's a corruption of my middle name and also a character I liked in a book I was reading when I registered...not very exciting really and nothing to do with Julian!

Eulalia · 30/12/2002 20:09

Can't remember if I said on the other thread that the Eu bit means beautiful and lalia means voice so the whole thing means beautiful voiced. It is the name of one of my sheep that baas.

zebra · 31/12/2002 04:07

My login has been zebra on other machines for years.... why is another long story, but I was happy to get it on Mumsnet.
