Hi,

I was called by a no win no fee person from a call centre telling me he can get me compensation for personal injury and it will not cost me anything and its a free service. I didn't want to make any claim but he kept on hassling me. I spoke to someone stating they were from a law firm only once and didn't pursue it any further. I received a bill from the company stating I need to pay them £1,500 for doing absolutely nothing. They are threatening to take me to court as well. This is affecting my mental health and wellbeing.
I would be very grateful for any help and advice please?

No they didn't know I was vulnerable.

I known it is. My daughter has been screaming at me for doing it. I'm really stressed out.

Can you clarify?

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 13:33

Sorry what did you mean by clarify?

You post didn't make much sense, was it a reply to a specific comment. Why is your daughter screaming?

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 13:39

She is screaming and shouting at me because I've given the man my bank details and I've got myself into this situation. She said she's fed up of it and can't deal.witj me anymore and I'm giving her anxiety and distress.

It is not her concern though. Try to focus on sorting it out. Whether the agreement might be legally valid and , if so, what they might be due. You can complain about underhand tactics separately.

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 14:37

Thank you so much. What are underhand tactics please?

Their method of engaging you, emphasising that it would be a free service rather than explaining risks and potential charges. Did they offer a cooling off period?

I hope everyone can pray for me. Its a very difficult time for me. I really appreciate all your help and support. God bless you all 🙏

Not sure praying will help, you need more practical assistance and hopefully can get that from CAB or similar

No I didn't sign the form I sent him an email to say I only want to apply for personal injury and sent him.my bank details. It was because someone reversed into my car in 2023.

The other driver who reversed into your car -
Has this been dealt with by their Solicitors ?

Is this firm appointed by your Insurance Company or is it one of those random "fishing" calls ?

CAB have Solicitors IIRC ( a relative worked for CAB and they had some on their Team)

Cold Callers are a nightmare , I was called by one where I was this close > < to being taken in , I had made a claim myself so I thought they were legit . But when they said " You were injured in the accident " my suspicions were raised because I wasn't driving , it was my car that was damaged .
I said to him "Well when was this , give me the dates and place as you seem to know so much about it <not> " but he just kept repeating "You were injured "

Most of the time they don;t give a name of the firm , they just go straight into the speil and maybe 1 in 20 times they find someone who is going through a claim ( like I was myself)

I didn't read it because the man who called me told.me it was a no win ko fee service and I believed him.so I didn't think I needed to read anything before I sign it. The man who cold called me reassured me it was all free and I wouldn't need to pay anything. I trusted the man bit he has scammed me.

So you signed a form without reading it and they now told you that you owe them £1500. Have you been back to look at the form? It probably said that you agree to pay £1500 if you don't proceed. Why on earth did you sign it without reading it in full?

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 17:19

They're didn't mention anything like a cooling-off period or send me anything in writing.

OP posts:
Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 17:21

No they didn't send me any form stating this. I didn't receive a form which said this.

You need help from someone you can see in person and look at what you have signed/emailed because, despite the best efforts of posters on this thread, we are yet to establish whether you signed a no win no fee agreement, a form of authority for your records, or whether you emailed with your bank details for some reason, or all three of those things.

We aren't able to help you any further without all the facts so please can I stress that you need to go and see someone in person who can help you.

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 17:27

Hi, no I didn't take the matter to any solicitor. The person reversed into my care and I had some lower back pain which cleared in a few days so I didn't want to make a claim.
No the man who was calling me was randomly calling me. I didn't even know he was going to phone me. It was not done by my car insurance. But he continued phoning me and putting me under pressure and was telling me to make a personal injury claim. He kept telling me I have nothing to lose and its all free.

OP, it doesn't matter how many times you post on here, you need to speak to someone in person who can help you with it. Please get in touch with CAB tomorrow. You have ignored this since May and ignoring it still will not make it go away

I have done a lot as well making phone calls and trying to sort this out. I've got a lot on my plate and I'm not accusing them of scamming me. They have scammed me. The person who was making phone calls to me and was harassing me to make a claim, where is he now? Does he even exist? Both of his numbers are out of use. How genuine is that? It's a horrible company. And where did they get my number from? Isn't that a scam?

Edited

Why did you keep answering?
😑

merryandbrightdelight · 12/01/2025 18:37

CAB will be able to advise you and will be able to signpost you if they are unable to help

Hugsandsmiles · 12/01/2025 19:31

I don't know he wasn't leaving me alone.

I have spoken to CAB and have hot an appointment to see someone. I haven't ognored this since may. I received the phone calls from the man in May.

The man said I needed to sign a form for him to handle my case thats all. I was told from the starting this was a no win no fee service and its free of charge. I spoke to a man over the phone only once claiming he was a no win no fee solicitor and didn't speak to them after that. But they carried on harassing me asking me to sign a document and return it yo them so they can access my G.P record. I ignored the emails hoping they would leave me alone but they carried on harassing me and then they sent me a bill for £1,500 to pay which has made my mental health condition worse and has left me in shock and panic.

You have been ignoring it since May. That's when it happened and you've been ignoring the emails since, until you got this bill.

It's not something you should ignore anymore. You need to be proactive and attend your CAB appointment so that they can get to the bottom of what you did/didn't sign and help you sort it out.

Hugsandsmiles · 13/01/2025 09:00

The man told me it was a free service and there will be no charge. So I didn't think I needed to inform them I didn't want to go ahead with it. He put me under pressure and was harassing me. He misled me and lied to me. How can they do this and then say they haven't defrauded me or scammed me. I don't need the stress. I'm going to sue the cold caller and the company in court and make a negligence claim against the company for causing me so much distress and putting me through this trauma.
