Hi,

I was called by a no win no fee person from a call centre telling me he can get me compensation for personal injury and it will not cost me anything and its a free service. I didn't want to make any claim but he kept on hassling me. I spoke to someone stating they were from a law firm only once and didn't pursue it any further. I received a bill from the company stating I need to pay them £1,500 for doing absolutely nothing. They are threatening to take me to court as well. This is affecting my mental health and wellbeing.
I would be very grateful for any help and advice please?

OP you can complain to their regulator

www.sra.org.uk/consumers/problems/

Did you sign a contract - YES or NO?

Hi @Hugsandsmiles sounds like you're having a tough time - and this is complicated stuff,

Your plan to go to CAB on Monday is a good one. You should 100% do this.

You should also see if your local MP can help - look up who they are on www.theyworkforyou.com. Go to their website and see if they have an "advice surgery". This is where their teams help people sort through issues like this. They may not be able to help, but it's worth a shot in addition to going to Citizen's Advice.

Good luck.

We don't seem to have the answer to that, in one post yesterday the OP says that she signed a form but in a later message today she says she didn't sign anything. Not really clear.

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 20:17

I haven't signed any form. The company are just blackmailing me.

Previously you stated that you signed a form giving them consent to get your GP records

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 20:36

No I thought I did but I didn't. I check my email inbox and no form was signed by me and sent.

Thank you. I'm really stressed out.

I hope everyone can pray for me. Its a very difficult time for me. I really appreciate all your help and support. God bless you all 🙏

And you couldn't have completed a form via an online link?

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:26

No I didn't complete any form at all. I only sent him that email when he wanted me to send him my bank details. I also stated that I only wanted to make a claim for personal injury. Thats all.
Having a really stressful time.

I signed a form as the man said it was only for me to give him permission to handle my case and that's was all.

What were the terms and conditions that you signed up to?

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:32

I didn't read it because the man who called me told.me it was a no win ko fee service and I believed him.so I didn't think I needed to read anything before I sign it. The man who cold called me reassured me it was all free and I wouldn't need to pay anything. I trusted the man bit he has scammed me.

I also stated that I only wanted to make a claim for personal injury

Which may be precisely the issue. You need to make a very clear timeline of all your communications from the time of the accident onwards. For example, have you at any point explicitly said you did not want to continue.

LIZS · 11/01/2025 22:37

And if you now have a copy of the same blank form, what terms does it state?

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:48

I don't have a copy of the form. I wasn't given a form by the company.

OP posts:
Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:49

No I didn't respond back because I wasn't feeling well.

OP posts:
LIZS · 11/01/2025 22:51

But you said earlier they sent you a blank one, unsigned.

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:52

They were sending me emails and were asking me to complete a questionnaire for them to then contact Mt GP. They're were harassing me abd were not leaving me alone.

OP posts:
Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 22:53

Yes they sent me a form of authority and told me to sign it but I didn't.

But your email instructed them that you wanted to follow it up, so they were reacting to that, not harassing you. Did you, even verbally, give them detail of the accident and injury for your claim? What is stated as the agreement on the form?

merryandbrightdelight · 11/01/2025 22:59

Sorry to hear you are going through this, op.

Like others have said, go to your local CAB on Monday for advice, and take along the letters that they sent you,

Have you tried calling the solicitors number on their website to discuss this matter? And you can also raise that the other numbers you have called are also not in service anymore,

Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 23:04

I spokenl to the man only once and gave him brief details of the accident. That was all. And after that they sent me that athority form to sign which I didn't.

OP posts:
Hugsandsmiles · 11/01/2025 23:05

Hi thank you. What will the CAB do anyway?

OP posts:
LIZS · 11/01/2025 23:10

They can draft a response with you, advise how to make a complaint and hopefully avoid it going further. However to get the most from your appointment you do need to get the information organised as far as you are able, dates of calls, emails, copy of the form they wanted you to sign, whatever you said to the law firm, latest correspondence demanding money etc. Did they know you were vulnerable at the time?
