Hello. I am in the process of going through family court. Does anyone know the total cost of self representing? I have paid the initial payment. Had a first hearing and have my second hearing coming up. However a friend of mine told me that it's not just the initial payment I need to pay. She has told me I need to pay everytime I am infront of the judge? For example if it gets adjourned? Has anyone any knowledge on this? Google search doesn't really answer me question? Thank you.

No one can answer this. It’s a how long is a piece of string scenario. You’re best speaking to your lawyer and seeing what the worst case scenario is.

An adjourned hearing doesn't usually incur a cost. What payments have you made already?

And if you're self-representing, have you spoken to Rights of Women? It's a free legal advice service for Women like you Wink

And so think about asking @MNHQ to move this over to the Legal Section. You'll get some good advice in there.

The Relationship Section on MN is also very good for advice on EXes.

You don’t pay per hearing if you’re self-representing. Just the application fee.
