How many GIFs and standard HNY messages did we all receive? Those 3 empty words.
Am I the only one who can't stand NYE?

I've sent some this morning but it's to people I actively care about. I cba about new year's eve either and loathe the excuse for fireworks.

One friend, one friend group and a phonecall from dd who is away at uni.

A lot less than usual.

midgetastic · 01/01/2025 13:10

You would rather be wished an unhappy new year ?

I hate new years. The insistence on it being a super fun celebration just highlights how much I don’t really fit in - I’ve never been one for parties and socialising. New Year’s Eve just makes me feel like an even bigger weirdo so I hate it. I could have spent the time with family but I’m not feeling well so I didn’t want to spread anything around

Geez it's just people sending you good wishes. Take it in the spirit intended. Some people (incredible I know) genuinely do wish good fortune on a large number of people.

I would just prefer not to have my phone inundated with GIFs and generic, copy & paste, texts, which are meaningless.

I sent lots and received lots. I like NYE.

Just delete them as soon as they arrive. Unless that'll give you a sore thumb/finger.

PumpkinScarf · 01/01/2025 13:44

Good grief! Lighten up.

WellsAndThistles · 01/01/2025 13:45

Similar to Xmas cards, I didn't send any this year apart from to people who sent them to me first.

Grand sum of NY texts = 1.

Not even had one from my son/dil or parents yet 🤣

DancingFerret · 01/01/2025 13:51

While I do wish people well on a personal level, those three words seem hollow when you consider what April's taxation changes will mean for job security and the cost of living.

HopingForTheBest25 · 01/01/2025 18:57

I think NYE is often a disappointment - the night itself suffers from bad weather, crowded bars, being rinsed for drinks. And of course, the problems you have don't disappear overnight.
That said, I like New Year's Day - I can legitimately take down the Christmas decorations and stop pretending to feel celebratory!

People saying 'Happy New year' are just wishing you well and following a social convention - I'd not read too much into it. It's like saying 'good morning' imo.
