Road layout confusion

There is a roundabout near me which seems to confuse people as to which lane to be in. I have always thought that the left lane would be for going either left or straight on and the right lane for going right or right round. However, people use the right lane for going into the second left lane, straight over or right. I have seen many near misses when people have used the right lane to turn left and the person on the left lane is going straight on, or people on both lanes are going straight on. As you can see from the pics, there are no road markings or signs. So what is the correct way to use the lanes??

You have cut off the top of the picture. There are 2 lanes into the roundabout, if there are 2 lanes off also at the top then either lane would be fine

If there's two lanes at the straight on part, then both of those lanes can go straight I would think. No one in that lane should be turning left though, that's definitely cutting across the lane of traffic!

The straight on exit is just one lane
