I've recently invested in retinol and Kiehl's night cream, plus Bobbi Brown primer and light foundation for daytime. Positive feedback from friends who have said I look glowing (which is very nice of them)

@DropOfffArtiste do you think it's more the creams or the primer?

I'd say probably the primer, but skincare helps. I've also been having a few more facials and just generally taking better care of my skin.

Start with skincare. Not just products but drinking enough water and getting enough sleep.

Good skincare regime will help. I use medical grade skincare and have peels every 3-4 months.

Make up helps too but only can do so much.

It's different for everyone, so you'll just have to try a bunch of stuff and see what you like. Don't expect miracles. The cosmetics industry has conned us into thinking makeup can be "transformational", but in the end, your face is your face and it reflects your lived experience. Nothing wrong with that!

That said, I think a tinted moisturiser, plus a bit of cheek colour, and mascara can probably accentuate your good points.

Thankyou, good excuse for some facials i think!

I recently got into makeup in my 40s. Really feel like I need it now!

Most of my makeup is Chanel with some Dior. I keep a really low-key look as I don’t like to be made up too much. Don’t be afraid to go into a store and get them to demo on you. I’ve built up my collection this way. I get them to show me how to use it and then take their advice on what suits me.

I also like YouTube tutorials. There are lots of older ladies demoing on there.

Look up beauty and the boutique. Lovely products and great tutorials.

Thankyou both x

Personally I think there is no need to go with really expensive products. I use Ulay primer£5, Mabeline foundation £10, L'Oréal bronzer £10. A blusher, eyebrow tint, and Lancolm mascara £25.
I often get asked what I use and get compliments on my skin.
I have used more expensive products but don't think they are better.
Book a makeup appointment at a store to see if you like their products but DON'T feel pressure to buy if you don't like it.
