Manifestation - does it work?

Has anyone tried manifesting and had things they have manifested come true?

I really want to reconnect with an old friend (a guy), we were really good friends for a few years and fell out / lost contact when he started seeing a new girl. We never entered a relationship, we were just friends and he used to walk me home after I used to finish late at a supermarket I used to work at when I was 18.

I've always felt like he was the one that got away, all our friends used to say we should have dated but it just never happened and we never discussed it, all though I always thought the fact he walked me home off his own back was a suggestion he liked me...anyway this was 18 years ago and he's probably married with children now but I would like to get back in touch to see how he is but can't find him on any social media (I can't remember his surname) so I thought about manifesting.....does it work or is it hocus pocus?

Isn't "manifesting" just genz for praying?
Are you in touch with anyone else back then or fb groups local to that town might come across him?

AlbertCamusflage · 25/11/2024 18:48

Of course it doesn't work. It is twaddle squared.

MarkingBad · 25/11/2024 18:48

Sorry no manifestation is bunkum

He was someone you knew 18 years ago, he will have changed enormously by now and so have you. Going back getting in touch rarely goes well, people hang onto the rare few stories that love/like blossoms but mostly it isn't like that.

It't a lovely memory to keep but you could easily ruin it with todays reality.

RadioBamboo · 25/11/2024 18:50

This sounds like one remove from Gypsy Rosie Lee on the end of Southend pier casting a spell on him.

Sortalike · 25/11/2024 18:50

It's absolute nonsense - sorry.

quizzywizzy1 · 25/11/2024 18:51

Manifesting in a sense that you have goals you want to achieve such as a promotion at work then I believe yes because it may give you motivation to achieve your goals however in the sense that you're talking, no sorry

yipyipyop · 25/11/2024 18:53

It's tosh. I'm sure lots of people in third world countries who are starving or women who are treated like second class citizens citizens wouldn't be n in their situation if manifestation worked 🙄 what bollocks

Bruisername · 25/11/2024 18:55

I think it’s a misinterpretation of what we used to call positive mental attitude

you want something so you believe you can get it and you work for it

its not just wishing and hoping - it does involve effort

HermioneWeasley · 25/11/2024 18:56

He’s the one that got away but you can’t remember his name 😱

StillAtTheRestaurant · 25/11/2024 19:01

You need to be really careful here. What if you manifest finding him and then you see his picture on the news and he's died in suspicious circumstances? You've now found him, you know his name, you know how he is (dead) so technically the manifestation has worked. Best to leave well alone and concentrate on the future, not the past.

ohyesido · 25/11/2024 19:06

It does, but you can't force a person to come to you. You can "manifest" true love but you have to be ready to receive them.

By longing for a particular person you are blocking the possibilities and repelling them by trying ti control them with your mind.

Chinese philosophy explains more, but basically the slightest wave of the hand can have a creative effect throughout the Universe, and so do our inner most thoughts.

Eyesopenwideawake · 25/11/2024 19:10

If you believe it - yes.
If you don't believe it - no.

Like most things really.

pinkdelight · 25/11/2024 19:24

Nah, course not, though it's always better to think about nice things happening than bad things and to put effort into it those things rather than being negative or fatalistic.

Ezekiela · 25/11/2024 19:28

Ha ha ha! Manifesting is a load of garbage. Footballer interviewed after scoring a wonder goal "I manifested it and it happened exactly that way." So... the next game, when you didn't score, did you not bother manifesting (why not, if it works?) or did you manifest it but it didn't work?

Confirmation bias.

CurlewKate · 25/11/2024 19:29

No.

gamerchick · 25/11/2024 19:31

How can you not remember his name.? Surely you're still in touch with at least one of the friends from back then who you can ask?

They were mostly my friends and he only knows them through me so doubt they would remember his name and it was 18 years ago! Seems silly as we literally had a conversation and his girlfriend at the time started shouting down the phone to me and hung up and we haven't spoken since.

I agree, I can dream...stranger things have happened

I have tried local groups and no luck

I think it works in the same way karma does, what you put out you tend to get back...

Lostinbrum · 25/11/2024 20:06

I'm manifesting I win the Omaze Lake District house. I'll let you know if it works 😄

Something like that.
The idea is that you focus/ write a list / of qualities you want in a partner/ boyfriend- kind , funny , solvent etc
But you could not specify- it must be 'Steve' from 18 years go. ...

JustAboutMuddlingThrough · 25/11/2024 20:40

Well if it did I would have a baby by now... it's a load of twaddle

BodyKeepingScore · 25/11/2024 20:43

Of course it doesn't work.

If it worked do you not think everyone would be manifesting up lottery wins or cures for cancer?

AlteredStater · 25/11/2024 20:44

No, you can't 'manifest' things because you aren't God. It's not the same as praying, either, as one PP suggested. Praying is requesting, and accepting that God may or may not grant your prayer. Manifesting is just hocum, but unfortunately has started seeping into Christianity, the so-called Prosperity Gospel, where we are all God-like and can manifest or 'declare' health, wealth and apparently past old friends.
