I am with ee but previously been with BT. I got a call to my mobile with a header BT Guide Calling and an 0800 number...0800 3289393. I was mid unloading stuff from my car and my dog bouncing about so a bit distracted. Lady who spoke to me was Scottish. Basically said someone was trying to get the hold of me but they were having difficulty getting through so they were checking the line to see if it worked on their behalf. ( That morning I had my phone on flight mode because I was working, so this sort of made sense. ) I asked who the person was , she said Sarah...I said I don't know anyone called Sarah, she said maybe I've got the name wrong. She then said ' are you a cleaner? '... I said no not really ( I occasionally help a friend with a local airbnb but not regularly) ...I then said oh maybe it's Sally ( the person I help out) , I will give her a ring , to which this Scottish lady said ..'.leave it 10 minutes because I'm on the phone.with her now.' I thought this was odd as 10 mins a is a long time. So we hung up. I rang Sally as the more I thought about it the odder it seemed. Sally knew nothing about it. I asked another friend beginning with S and she knew nothing about it. I googled the number which initially seemed legit as it was 0800...but on closer looking was reported as possibly scammy....but not definitively so. I phoned BT and got handed back and forth but they didn't seem too concerned despite it being 0800 number and using BT guide calling header. I reported it to ee and they put a scam block on my phone.
Thoughts on this please ...very odd... unnerving as asked about 'cleaning' so likely knew something about me. Anyone had similar?
