He would probably be aged over 50, most likely in his 60's or 70's.

A David Pashley was a professional photographer at 4 Ravelston Terrace, Edinburgh between 1983 and 1989, according to this site. Of little use in finding him today, I'm sure.

Trouvere - thanks, I googled him this morning and found that too. Is possible.
Am waiting to hear back from a man in Australia my dad said might know in a letter from 10 years ago.
