Long distance relationship - do they work

I've recently met a guy who I really like at a couple of networking events, The trouble is he lives, and has a business and a child in N.Ireland - he was over here for a few business projects which is how we met.

We have had dinner a few times and really like each other.

My question is, has anyone ever had a long distance relationship that has worked? I know N.Ireland isn't the other side of the world but I don't want to jump into something that will leave me heartbroken in the end.

I don't think I could ever move to N. Ireland either, but as he has a son there I would feel awful if he moved over here just to be with me (his son is only young).

Has anyone been in this situation and has it worked?

You’ll undoubtedly hear some lovely uplifting stories,but it’s about you and him not anecdotes from others.

You're clear at moment you’ll not move to NI but his business and son are in NI
Would he be willing to relocate a child & business?
Where is the child mother? Does he have sole custody?
Relationships are about compatibility, mutual goals and both willing to compromise equally. It’s not a giving things up competition, if it’s always one person compromising that’ll cause resentment

if you’re getting serious you need to have the big conversation soon see were you both are ideologically about
being a step mum
marriage or cohabitation
finances -individual or joint (I always recommend individual)
education state or private , religious or not

Finally I did do a LDR for number years at uni, different countries. But I was a single teenager student, no children. It was best both worlds had my student freedom and stability of a relationship
