Morning people, wondering if anyone has any info please, long story short I raise my 2 and a half year old granddaughter and have done since she was born, I also have my youngest child living at home ( she's 16 ) there's was some confusion over who should be claiming the child benefit as I don't have PR yet for my granddaughter but we ended up getting told that it should be me so I put a claim in on the 10th August, obviously they say it could be up to 12 weeks which will be up in a few days but their site says they are only going through claims from 25th of July so not sure how that's going to pan out but anyway, I'm wondering if that because I had stopped recieving CB for my first child before I put this claim in so will my granddaughter class as a first child or a second? Also I know they backdate CB for up to three months before you make the claim, but do they also pay the weeks you wait from the day they put in your claim in? Lots of love

It should be dated back to when you put the claim in, at least. Not sure if it will go back any further, this might depend on if someone else is claiming for her currently.

If she is the only child you are claiming for, she will be the first child. I assume your 16 year old is no longer in education so that you could continue that claim too.

Such a shame you weren't sure for the first couple of years, hopefully the payment will start coming through soon.
