What sort of boy?
Sporty, sciencey, bookish, outdoorsy?

ds has just turned 9 and he has had:

  • an electricity kit thing from the Science Museum ("harness the natural power in your potato!")
  • a set of Dr Who novels, written like flowcharts - where you decide which turns the story takes (great, as nearly inexhaustible for re-reading)
  • a subscription to First News
  • various computer games featuring bits of engineering components (springs, levers, bananas) which you have to put together to solve puzzles. It came free with a game about caring for virtual puppies & kittens, which he generously gave to his sister & now they play that for hours
  • a box set of Madeleine L'Engle (Wrinkle in Time etc.)
  • an etymological dictionary

(He is sciencey & bookish)

Oh, I also gave him 1066 and All That

Thank you, all very good ideas. I am not really sure what he is into as I see him once a year at most. Always ask but never get ideas from the family. So thank you all!

An Amazon voucher for him to spend online is good - then he can choose books, games, electronic games etc. My ds (12) has had these since we moved abroad two years ago and loves it.

I want to harness the natural power in my potato!

Thought about vouchers as they live in north america but not sure what amount is appropriate.

Another thing - an aunt gave him a trendy t-shirt - a simple surfy one, Canterbury (? New Zealand brand? - something like that - & he was really happy with that.
