Favourite pen?!

I know this might seem a silly thread but I'm really struggling to find a nice pen to write with. I used to have lovely handwriting but the pens I've currently got are just not doing it for me... so what's your fave pen to write with?! I write a lot!

Cheap basic ones I tried the posh ones over the years and not a fan

Watchkeys · 07/08/2024 10:37

If I'm writing just for me, I use a propelling pencil. I'm very fussy about it. They're all over the house, but I always want my favourite one!

Devilsmommy · 07/08/2024 10:37

I miss fountain pens. My writing was so much better with them than a biro

FunnysInLaJardin · 07/08/2024 10:44

I have used a fountain pen for over 35 years.

Mine is a Parker Duofold which I have had for about 25 years. It was fairly expensive new, but is a lovely pen and writes beautifully

sashh · 07/08/2024 10:45

@Devilsmommy Fountain [pens are still around, I have several but I must admit my cheapest ones are the easiest to write with.

I have a couple of Cross, a couple of lammy and a few preppy (different coloured inks in case you wondered why so many).

Alarae · 07/08/2024 10:45

I use Pilot Frixion pens. They feel smooth to write with and the fact I can rub my writing out is a bonus.

taxguru · 07/08/2024 10:46

I've a range of Lamy fountain pens, each with a different ink colour. They're lovely and pretty cheap to buy. Lots of choice as to nibs. I prefer the left hand nib even though I'm not left handed as I find it smoother and finer. I still have nightmares about italic ink nibs after having an insane head master at primary school who insisted we wrote with an italic ink fountain pen!

Alternatively, I also have a few propelling pencils with different lead hardnesses - the Staedtler leads are excellent, nice and smooth and don't constantly break.

I hate ballpoints, fibre tips etc., and never use them unless there's no choice. My handwriting is so much neater with a fountain pen or pencil and it's more enjoyable to write with them.

My son introduced me to these and I love them.

I also use a Waterman fountain pen that I've had for 30 years.

Blueuggboots · 07/08/2024 10:58

I've got a waterman pen I've had for almost 30 years. No one else is allowed to write with it.
I also quite like the thicker nibbed biros but I don't like gel pens. They never write well for me.

ShowOfHands · 07/08/2024 11:02

Bic fine line biros.

Harder and harder to find in actual shops but I adore them.

Carebearsonmybed · 07/08/2024 11:14

I like fineliners or sometimes pilot ones.

I quite like berol handwriting pens.

Tarkan · 07/08/2024 11:14

These exact ones in black. There are similar ones by the same company but they don't write as smoothly for me as these ones.

Nice and scratchy.

I was just looking at these! They're very pretty!

I was taught to write with an Osmiroid italic fountain pen at secondary school and loved it. Now I use good old Parker Vector italic nib pen ,one with black ink one with red ink and frequently get +tve comments on my hand writing(but not my spelling!!!!!)

NatureofSociety · 07/08/2024 12:06

The yellow Bic ones. They are harder to find, but I love them. I have a few posh pens, but none of them are as comfortable to use.

CowTown · 07/08/2024 12:09

Bic Crystal Extra Broad

deeahgwitch · 07/08/2024 14:37

My two favourites are

Pilot V Sign Pen

Uniball Gel Impact 1.0

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 07/08/2024 16:08

My current favourites are Toms studio mini and the duo pens as I have one of each. They are pricey but amazing quality. For fountain pens which I still use as a teacher, I have recently discovered Ellington pens and they are really good quality and smooth to write with.

When journaling I like Emott fibre tips.

Yes I am a bit of a pen hoarder.

oh Bastion pens are quite good too but a bit heavy to write a lot with.

cult pens website is a good place for a browse of brands.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 07/08/2024 16:51

Another fountain pen.nerd. But they don't improve my awful.writing. I quite like sharpie gel pens. Really black, dead smooth.

muddyford · 07/08/2024 17:25

I have a gorgeous engine-turned enamel The Cross fountain pen. I use it all the time. Got it a third of the retail price when a local stationery shop closed.

Hawkmoth · 07/08/2024 17:29

I love my kaweco sport with broad nib. Writes very smoothly, and I use a convertor so I can use fancy ink.
