DRIVING TEST

Hi,

I'm sitting my driving test on Wednesday. My driver instructor said I'm ready and have a really high chance of passing. My question is, did you have your instructor in the car during the test or not? I can't make my mind up! If you did or didn't, what were your reasons??

I did not know it was even possible to have anyone else in the car apart from the examiner.

I did not have my instructor with me when I passed my car test at the first attempt.
I did not have an instructor when I passed my motorbike test at the first attempt.

I also didn’t know that it is an option, although I passed my test 35 years ago but my teen DC are going through tests now.

I can’t imagine having your instructor there would be to your advantage - they can’t advise you, it would probably increase nerves and you would have to pay them for their time too.

Good luck though! DS has his second test on Weds so solidarity!

Edited for the odd typo.

No, but it was a long time ago. Although I had to pay him to sit around the Test Centre until the Test was over to get me back home if I had failed.

I failed my test 4 times 😂 but never once took my instructor on a test. They can't help and it's added pressure having 2 people watching your driving skills instead of one.
Even if you were failed unfairly, your instructor can't change the result. To contest a driving test you have to go to court, pay a load of court costs then if you win, you take the test again for free. It would be cheaper and easier to just book another driving test.
Additionally, the weight of the car will change by having an additional passenger. Only mildly but this could affect your thinking and stopping distance when your driving experience is limited.

I wouldn't advise having your instructor in the car.

I passed on my 5th go 😂
