had a phone call last week from someone saying that i had requested info online, something to do with life insurance i think, i told them i hadn't done that and when they said oh well someone might be using your details then i thought they were lying as i get tons of calls all the time tyrying to sell menthings i don't want.

anyway today i have a call from the bank, the fraud detection manager who said that a transaction using my debit card seems to have compromised my number and although there doesn't seem to be any suspicious withdrawals i am advised to cut up the card and they will send me a new one out.

so, has someone stolen my identity or something? what do i do ?

sorry i am a bit naive with this stuff!

I think you can do a credit check - there are companies like Experian where you pay £2 and they tell you what your rating is. So if someone has taken any credit cards out in your name then it will be flagged up.

Ask your bank for advice?

Contact any other of your card companies and ask them if your account looks ok.
