Primary infertility and second baby.

I have a 4 month old baby that took us nearly 3 years to conceive. My question is, has anyone had a second baby easier after having unexplained infertility with the first?

Not quite infertility, but it took 12 cycles with very regular sex to conceive DC1 (was the cycle we had the initial investigative tests!) and then DC2 took about, er, 20 minutes. 😁

We were actually 'hoping' for an age gap of around 2.5 years, at least not under 2, but there's 21.5 months between them. (But they're best friends so all worked out for the best!)

Good luck!

Not me, but a friend. They needed IVF to conceive their first and then fell pregnant naturally very quickly when her period returned. DC2 was born before DC1 was a year old!

I think you are more fertile for around the first 3 cycles immediately after your period returns. I also conceived first month after a miscarriage after taking a long time TTC initially. Good luck!

My friend did but it was truly unexplained - ie she paid for all kinds of testing and nothing was found. In your case you may want extra tests

@Namechange746498 🤣🤣🤣 that's good to know. There's me aiming for 2 under 2. Just due to my age. I don't want to leave it too late!

How did you find having 2 under 2? Stressful? 🤣

@Ozanj so they did conceive quickly the second time? We did lots of tests and they couldn't find anything. Obviously something was wrong!

@Onelittlequackquack Erm, it was fairly tough for the first 18 months or so (and tbh, pretty brutal for the first few months when night times were them tag-teaming!). And actually, lockdown with a 2 and 3 year old was also quite hard! But it was short-term pain for long-term gain.

In my view, it was definitely good to get the baby stage over and done with!

What's your weight like? Although I was having pretty regular periods, my weight was on the low side of normal (with quite a low body fat) and I was doing quite a lot of running when I started TTC DC1, which I think could have contributed to having sub-par fertility. As the year went on, I definitely became more lax with my running and did put on weight (and body fat), which ultimately I think made the difference.

@Namechange746498 though lockdown too! Must of been tough.

I'm on the heavier side snd they had suggested I lost weight to get on the ivf list. I lost 10lbs but also took macaroot and isotol the month I got pregnant. So I'm unsure!

I lost weight when pregnant but now I'm back where I started 🫠🫠 so I would probably have to lose weight again before we started trying.

@Onelittlequackquack Ah, congratulations on the weight loss! There definitely seems to be a fine balance in body fat percentage for optimum fertility.
