Has anyone else got kids that dont at all resemble you physically?

My 2 daughters (4yrs and 2yrs) dont seem to look like me in any way physically. Whenever I see other people's kids they at least bear some similar traits, but I feel that I couldn't spot mine as being 'mine' in a line-up. It's a good job I am am not the father as I would be worried that I wasn't the biological father!
They definitely resemble dh though so I know they are ours!
But still, I get fed up with the comments from dh's inlaws that they look like dh's family and that they have inherited all their good qualities from his side of the family. It makes me feel like I am just the 'vessel' to pass on his genes instead of mine.
Can anyone else relate to this?

Yes, my first DD looks like the spitting image of my DP, has done since birth and EVERYONE who has ever seen them together have commented, my family, his family, friends, even the blimmin midwives, honestly anyone we come into contact with.

Have just had DD2 and am pleased that she looks nothing like her dad and just like me.

Pinkchampagne · 07/04/2008 11:10

My eldest son looks a lot like me, but DS2 is the double of his father - he doesn't resemble me at all.

pucca · 07/04/2008 11:13

My dd looks like me, but my ds doesnt at all. They do both have brown eyes like me though.pics in profile if you want to take a peek.

AnneMayesR · 07/04/2008 11:48

My son looks like my grandpa but my other 2 children don't look like me at all. I am short with brown curly hair and brown eyes and my daughter is tall and thin with golden blond hair and blue eyes. I can't believe she is my daughter.

OrmIrian · 07/04/2008 11:59

Yes. Mine are all beautiful

I am told that DD looks like me. But I can't see it.

I don't think DD looks like me at all tbh.
In fact at the moment she looks like Kate Nash is her mother.

hecate · 07/04/2008 12:02

Mine don't look like me at all. They don't look much like dh either. but in personality - well, it's scary how much we can see of ourselves in them! Ds1 takes mainly after dh, while ds2 is just like me! Poor thing.

bratnav · 07/04/2008 12:04

Ha yes! see my profile, neither of my DDs look even slightly like me but probably just as well really....

ExtraFancy · 07/04/2008 12:05

My DS (7mo) looks nothing like me! Everyone says how much he looks like his dad though, so that's OK...

Winetimeisfinetime · 07/04/2008 12:06

My ds doesn't look like me at all - I have blonde hair and blue eyes which have been completely wiped out by my Indian dh's more dominant brown eyed, black haired genes.

Ds shares lots of my personality traits {poor lad} though so it all evens out. But even though it can sometimes feel strange to have a child who looks nothing like you, I comfort myself that nature has got it right for him as it could have been much worse as he could have been lumbered with my looks and dh's personality !

nappyaddict · 07/04/2008 13:37

scorpio my ds likes to play the pushing eachother around in a box game too

largeg&t - your dc are gorgeous!

Mikafan · 07/04/2008 13:38

All my 3 look like their dads. I'd hoped that when I had a DD (which I did 11 months ago) she'd look like me - nope, she looks like her dad too

nappyaddict · 07/04/2008 13:40

pucca you look totally different to what i imagined!! your dd looks just like you

wabbit- love the knicker picture lol. btw what's the double pushchair? i love it! ds has that same wetsuit but in black and yellow.

MuffinMclay · 07/04/2008 13:42

Neither look at all like me or dh, but both look very similar to each other and to one of their cousins.

pucca · 07/04/2008 17:29

NA...Why how did you expect me to look lol, you by the way are too pretty!!

i dunno i think i expected you to have dark brown straight hair.

Joash · 07/04/2008 23:36

I have 3 and all are totally different;

DD1 - blonde hair, blue eyes, 5' 2" tall average build
DD2 - Brunette, brown eyes, 5' 6" - athletic build
DS - Light Brown hair, green eyes, 6' & skinny

Janni · 07/04/2008 23:37

Weirdly, my adopted DD looks more like me than does biological DS1. Children definitely absorb the mannerisms of those they spend a lot of time with, so even if there is not a definite physical resemblance, there will be a 'likeness' because of that.

Joash · 07/04/2008 23:39

and yet my GS (child to DD2) is the spitting image of my DS.

my ds1 is the image of his dad and uncle. So I say he gets his brains from me
Ds2 is the image of me. but he still has my brains
They look nothing like each other and due to close age gap and ds2 being bigger they are nearly the same size at 22m and 3.4m. So whenever they are out with just one of their parents people think that we are out with our own child plus his friend!

All of my kids have blue eyes and look nothing like me. Along comes DGS and has my grey eyes - even though (absent) twunty fathers' eyes are brown.
