In the late 70's / 80's?

a sort of adolescent girl's introductin to dabbling in the occult

Actually, I thought they were great, and still have a couple of annuals.

remember a creepy story about a rag doll that came to life, and one seriously disturbing one about a girl who went to live in a village where it transpired all the villagers had tree roots instead of feet...and a series about a girl who sold her soul to the devil to save her horse...

I'm sure there were even more bizzare stories. They were fab.

YES! I have often wondered if anyone else did. I asked a few friends and just got blank looks. Have actually got Misty annuals at my parents house too. I thought it was super scary at the time and TBH some of then still scare me a bit now. The one I remember was about a Dracula type character set in London who used to have "blood oranges" delivered by a Victorian Green Grocers daughter and she snoopily discovered that they were actually full of REAL BLOOD. Super creepy.

Just been thinking about this. There was also one called Moon child or Moon girl or something like that and she could move things with her mind - The Misty version of Carrie I think, she too had a cow of a Mum. I used to scare myself witless at nights with Misty.

Ooh yes, I remember 'Blood Oranges'!

And a creepy one about two girls who go potholing and come out to find there's been a timeslip and they are in a post-apocalypse world. It's all coming back to me now.

Yes I loved it. I don't remember the stories but I think the first issue came with a free gift - a bracelet or something. I do remember there was something about a cat or cats though.

Ohhhh yes - I totally loved it and moved straight from Misty into Arthur C Clarke books and some magazine called 'Unexplained' which I went halves on with my big bruvver!!

I have a couple of Misty Annuals, they are fab...might dig them out this afternoon more appealing than the ironing I should be doing.

Misty was great. I adored it. Does anyone remember the girl being preserved in amber story? That one stayed with me for ages. I do remember the "Blood Oranges" and and the roots one very well! Very creepy.

When I met one of my best friends at college we (eventually) discovered with delight that we had both been big Misty fans. She sent me one of the annuals for Christmas a couple of years ago -it's wonderful.

Wow!-blast from the past!

I remember the 'blood oranges' story too!

I used to love those kind of stories-don't think I was a teen when I read them, maybe my big sister bought it.

Does anyone know when 'Misty' was around exactly-my memory isn't too good!

wooga · 06/04/2008 19:13

I just googled misty and recognised an annual from 1979!

I know how I came across 'misty',my parents used to take us to car boot sales at weekends and my sister and I always bought old annuals,'Jackie' being the most popular!

This was in the 80s,am 31 now- didn't help me having a clue about fashion when I was at school-reading 70s stuff!

Once, years ago, my sister set her alarm to go off really early at the weekend and went in the garden to wash her face with dew because something she'd read in one of the annuals!
