Does anyone know how I can find out if there is a group near to us so my son can start going and how old he needs to be?

I also would like to find him a karate session he can go to as he enjoyed a taster session but we can't afford the £100 a month it was going to be for 2 lessons a week.

Cubs starts at age 8. If he is not 8 yet, get him on the waiting list. I don't know where you are, but here the waiting list is over 2 years...

Don't know about karate, sorry.

That's far too much for karate.

Myds pays £5 per 1.5 hour lesson, which is once a week plus gradings (£35) every 3 to six months and £20 a year insurance/membership.

You need to google karate clubs and see if there are any cheaper local ones. If you live in South/SouthEast London try SSKA (southern shotokan karate association) which is the club my ds uses. They have dojos all over the South of England

Your council should have a list of Cub units that run in your area.

Just google "cub scouts in xxxx(your town)"..thats how I found Beavers for my Ds which they can do from 6-8yrs. There's a National Scouting Website with all the links on you'll need.

TurkeyLurkey · 31/03/2008 13:50

here you go There's a number at the top you can ring if you can't find a local group.

Thanks all.

We are in Kent.

I tried googling but will try again and have a proper look.

Ds1 is 7 so he will have to start with Beavers.

Find details about your local beaver pack here
(enter your area under the 'where is my local beaver scout colony?' section)

And follow this link to find your local cubs (under the 'where is my local cub scout pack)

Hope that helps

xx

No worries, I hope you find somewhere for your ds.

My ds has thrived in Beavers, and is now thoroughly enjoying Cubs. I really think it is the best thing since sliced bread
