ICE CREAM VANS

This is just a quick question as i am gettign irritated by it.... For the last 2 weeks we have had an ice cream van coming round our way - all very nice you would think in the height of a summers day but it plays the blue peter theme very loudly and very annoyingly and comes round at between 7.30 and 7.45 every night so dc are in bed anyway and i dont want an ice cream off him as hes always sat in his van smoking which doesnt jump out as too hygenic. Anyway someeone else in the road who is also irritated by it as there dc kick of big time at bedtime wanting an ice cream suggested to me that they are not supposed to come around or play there tunes after a certain tim e- does anyone with police man/ woman status know if this is a load of old tosh?

I'm watching with interest. I had a thread a few months ago about the van round here which comes round all through the sodding winter honking the farking horn at 7.30 then AGAIN at 10pm!

I think it varies depending on what your council says.

You would have to check with them whether they have a rule about the times.

Have any of you thought about going out and asking him to come round earlier? or just at a weekend? If you phrase it so that the implication is that he will get loads of business that way, then he may be happy to do so.

I will ring our ice cream dept tomorrow - god knows what dept it will come under. I would approach him but he was at the school tuther day or turned up at school tuther day and another van was already there - he got out of his van and started hurling some very colourful language at the other van man whi u assume knicked his space. Nice friendly chap (NOT!).

nicky did you contact your council or is he still coming round at ungodly oclock even though its snowing ?

My dd thinks it means he has ran out of ice cream when he plays the songs as thats what daddy has told her

I imagine it will come under Environmental Health. If he is selling food, he will have to be registered with them as a food retailer anyway, and they deal with antisocial noise, which it sounds like this is.

I had a look at our council's website and it does indeed come under environmental health. In our area it is allowed until 11 pm(??!!) but he shouldn't be using his horn. They are not bothering to enforce it though. Grrrrr

Oh, and yes, he comes in all weathers.

My dc are believe that when the ice-cream van makes a noise, the driver is letting everyone know that there is no more ice-cream left - all sold out!!

But yes your local council should have some sort of rules re this.

I think telling the kids that the tune means he has run out is a fab idea

lol My dh is a tight a* and is inventive with his fibs if it saves him £1 on ice cream!

The curfew in our area is 7pm apparently and they have a team lol that goes out to monitor any vans that break them rules!!

I always used to wonder why vans came round in all weathers and when the majority of children were in school, until DH told me that ice cream vans are the major means of distribution of "grey import" cigarettes - is this commonly known - or is my DH making it up?!
