Is this normal!

We have a house in our village which has a massive display of lights for charity every year and a collection box. We live about half a mile away on a road which is a route around the village.

We had a card this week from the little boy that lives in the house with lights. 6 yr old, very poor writing, and a note from his parents saying he insisted on sending us a card as he looks out for our van and car each time they drive past.

My husband has a clever private plate on a very ordinary van. I have an ordinary suv with a normal plate.

Is this just a van-obsessed little boy, possibly on the spectrum (hence the point about his writing) or should I be worried?

I thought it was quite sweet but am wondering if there is something else.

My husband wants to drop a card round with chocolates and offer him a sit in the driving seat of the van if his parents are there, watching and agreeable!

I think it's more weird the "offering a sit in the driving seat of the van" tbh

So a random child (the house /lights but has no connection with the rest of the story as far as I can work out) sent you a card because you have a fairly ordinary car and van and drive past his house? And now you want to invite him to sit in the ordinary van. And you think he might be on the spectrum. Many 6 year olds have ‘poor writing’ as it’s a developing skill at that age. How did he know where you live?
None of this makes sense.

They drive past our house and look out for the car and van - so the card says.

The card has a picture of their house with charity lights with mum, dad and child on the front and its a well known house in the village.

In the context of the kid being mad about vans ? Much like a kid would live to het in a real tractor if that was their obsession?

Context: its a small, friendly village with a good community.

They go past our house and look for car and van on our driveway.

They put a card through our door.

Just trying to understand why... and maybe make a kid hapoy at Christmas.

Oh, and as I said, the van has a clever, quite distinct, numberplate.

What’s the Charity? Have they maybe sent out cards to get more support for it? I could maybe understand if your husband had an ice cream van or a digger or a sports car but surely lots of people have ordinary vans?

EmptyYoghurtPot · 24/12/2023 12:00

Would a 6 year old understand a clever numberplate though?

It says "van", so probably, yes

What are you worried about exactly? Some kids just love vehicles

Ilovemyshed · 24/12/2023 12:19

Ok, so I think its likely that the kid just loves vehicles and they want a donation to their charity collection - no idea what it is the card doesn't say.

We will ignore it.

Your husband has the right idea. It's a kid with a vehicle obsession. My 15mo loves a van and would be beside himself to go in one. I think you're seeing things that aren't there. No suspicious behaviour from 6yr old at all🙄
