Right think ing of having a car and a camper.

Can I insure one fully comp and drive the second one 3rd party. Does each car have to have its own insurance. I am confuxsed because I always thought I could rive other cars but was covered 3rd party only. But does that only apply if someone else has insurance specificaly for that car.

Ah that s what I thought, I was going to just have a camper, but have been offered a cheap small car and wondered if it might work to run them both, but willhave to insure them both.

Any one know if it is cheaper to insure a camper if it is a second car not the sole car?

Prvided you have a good driving history (no points, no accidents) you can usually add a second vehicle at a discount.

Scramble · 15/03/2008 00:23

Ah but how much of a discount? I am fed up with all this all I want is a campervan.

Have you not got either at the moment? If not you will need to do some insurance research - different companies favour different kinds of cars and drivers. It is a PITA but if you think sorting insurance is too complicated, maybe you should stick to public transport

I have insurance on my wrecked car but get tied in knots trying to get quotes for cars I don't own yet, oh bugger it .

all cars have to have there own insurance policy

if your car doesnt then (as shown on traffic cops etc) the police will take the car from you (mid journey) and not let you have it back.

the reason is if say the handbrake broke (while no one was driving it) and it crashed / damaged something, all the damage would still need to be paid for, and without a policy OR a driver no one would be eligable

Ah yes of course, so I think I will stcik to having one car then as I don't think I could afford to insure 2 cars unless htye gave a bigg discount, just I got the offer of a cheap small car. But I rellay want something bigger or preferably a transit or a mini van.

Don't Direct Line do cheaper insurance if you insure more than one vehicle with them? Or was it Tesco? If you want to be insured to drive cars that you don't own, so if I wanted to test drive a car, I would need to add that option to my insurance. My dad told me that one as he has it on his, so he can drive mine. Was handy when we went out looking for cars!

Have a look on the Tesco compare website here.
