What exactly is 'lotion'? Can anybody explain?

It's not moisturiser. It's not cleanser. What is it's purpose?

Johnson's Baby Lotion? What's it for?

And you always get a bottle of 'lotion' in smelly gift sets - bubble bath, soap and 'lotion'. Why?

WTF is 'lotion'?

You are thinking too much

tassisssss · 13/03/2008 20:02

i use baby lotion with washable wipes to clean baby's bottom

used to use cotton wool and lotion then switched to reusables. much cheaper than wipes, less hassle than water and gentler than wipes on baby's skin.

BroccoliSpears · 13/03/2008 20:29

So it's for cleaning then? Not for putting on and leaving on?

FINE!

Nobody cares about lotion then.

Humph.

it is light moisturiser.

which can also be used as cleanser, because the oily bits attract the dirty oily bits in your skin (presumably).

The romans used to use olive oil to clean their skin y'know.

SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 20:43

It's pink.

BroccoliSpears · 13/03/2008 20:53

It is pink.

But I'm not convinced it's light moisturiser. I put some on my hands earlier and it was sticky. I had to go and wash it off.

it can be yellow though. or white.

SenoraPostrophe · 13/03/2008 20:54

maybe you have mixed your lotion up with pva.

SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 20:54

Yellow or white? Hmmm...mine has always been pink.

SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 20:55

Though I am prepared to allow for the possibility that I have mixed it up with PVA. And as Broccoli says hers was sticky, maybe she has too...

baby lotion is white isn't it?

maybe mine was bleached by the spanish sun.

SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 20:59

Johnson's (I know, I know, they are evil animal testers - but I seemed to end up with 27 bottles of the stuff when I had ds1) is definitely pink.

BroccoliSpears · 13/03/2008 20:59

Well the bottles in my bathroom are pink, white or cream.

The enormous and completely unused bottle of johnsons baby lotion I have found is yucky pink. And it smells horrid of perfume. And it made my hands sticky. And it's not PVA.

spanish johnson's is white. how strange.

I still think it's light moisturiser though.

taffy101 · 13/03/2008 21:06

I always wondered wtf lotion was. Someone bought some for me when I had DS and I put it in a charity bag after keeping it for a year and not using it.

SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 21:08

I thought it was cleanser...I vaguely remember my mum suggesting I put it on cotton balls and clean ds1's bum with it. Yeah, right...that's what wipes were invented for.

sagacious · 13/03/2008 21:11

LOTION

----------

  1. A medicated liquid for external application.
  2. Any of various externally applied cosmetic liquids.
[Middle English locion, from Old French lotion, from Latin lti, ltin-, a washing, from ltus, past participle of lavere, to wash; see leu()- in Indo-European roots.] --------- Ours is white
SorenLorensen · 13/03/2008 21:14

I'm going to have to go in Boots now and surreptitiously squueze some out so I can see what colour it is. I was sure it was pink but you are making me doubt myself. Mind you, it's a while since we had any, as ds1 is 11 today (eek) and I didn't have any with ds2.

Chuffinnora · 13/03/2008 21:21

I don't know what is or what it is for but my Johnsons is pink and is the only thing that works when removing a face paint in my opinion. Still leaves that jaundice glow the next day but hey... at least DS doesn't go to school as a dinosaur the next day.
