What's your favourite saying or wise words that cheer you up? What's your really profound or clever little ditties that just leave you thinking 'that's great'?
Mine are...Ride the storm. And,nothings ever as bad as it seems.

sh** happens . When I got married an older colleague wrote on my wedding card the following which is very good advice
"to keep your marriage brimming
with love in the loving cup
whenever you're wrong admit it
whenever you're right shut up!" (not too cheesy...)

WideWebWitch · 27/11/2002 19:54

sobernow, that would be mine too, except it would be 'don't let the b*ards get you down' - it was one of my dads sayings and I wrote it on the card that went with my flowers at his funeral.

Never Let the sun go down on your wrath.

batey · 27/11/2002 20:45

Sobernow, that is soo our famillies saying!
One I remember from our Head when leaving school-
If you reach for the sky you might just reach the treetops, if you reach for the treetops you'll never leave the ground.

One other one, the only certain thing in life is change.

GeorginaA · 27/11/2002 20:45

praise the good behaviour, ignore the bad behaviour

(will let you know if it works with dh as well as toddler...)

jasper · 27/11/2002 21:32

Don't worry about anything that won't affect you in ten years time.

susanmt · 27/11/2002 21:40

When I had ds after having dd my Gran said 'You may as well stop, you can't have anything different'
Succint, true, and I'm taking the advice too!

GeorginaA · 27/11/2002 21:45

Variation on that, Jasper: "in a hundred years, who's going to care?" (from The Terminator)

"Everybody gets old, wrinkly & ugly" (so choose your life partner according to the inner & not outer beauty.)

SueDonim · 28/11/2002 04:37

"A Mother's place is in the wrong." It sounds negative but it cheers me up when my best efforts have failed because it shows that sometimes there just isn't an answer.

Also, "Getting old is the pits, but it's better than the alternative."

And when I get irritated by my mean, stingey bro - "There are no pockets in shrouds."

Enid · 28/11/2002 07:50

"What goes around, comes around"

GeorginaA · 28/11/2002 08:55

"In Vino Veritas" (In wine there is truth)

hmb · 28/11/2002 09:18

My all time fave quote, on the work of women. It is an annonymous quote from an epitaph in Bushey.

Here lies a poor woman who always was tired,
For she lived in a place where no help was hired.
Her last words on earth were, dear friends I'm going
Where washing ain't done nor sweeping nor sewing,
And Everything there is exact to my wishes,
For there they don't eat and there's no washing of dishes....
Don't mourn for me now, don't mourn for me never,
For I'm going to to do nothing , for ever and ever.

Pick yourself up, dust yourself down, and start all over again.

mollipops · 28/11/2002 09:35

This too shall pass.

Don't compromise yourself - you are all you've got.

The fragrance always remains in the hand that gives the rose.

Also from Indira Ghandi - "You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist."

"We're not here for a long time, we're here for a good time."
