Static fleecy blankets causing sparks in dd's cot???

My dh got up to see to our dd last night as she had let out a fairly typical yelp around 3am. When he removed her covers, a lightweight fleece blanket appeared to spark, and when he put it to one side, he said it glowed. He has been thinking about it all day and wanted to know if any MNers had a similar experience.

It was a stormy sort of night last night.

He's thinking it may also be fairies.

when i was a kid my nightie used to do it and would scare me stiff! Thought i was on fire. You should get rid of it coz static shocks can hurt. Dont want her getting nightmares from her blanket!

We've left it off tonight, but its such a lovely snug blanket. Anyone else experience same?

Try washing it with fabric softener, my dressing gown is fleecy and does this if i wash without fabric conditioner.

You can get cotton fleecy blankets which I prefer to the polyester ones

like these

they're a bit pricey but they do wash well and are good as pram blankets too
