internal doors - do I just go with plain white diy shop type or do I splash out?

MN I need your help. I am really tempted to splash out but is it worth it? Will I be the only one who enjoys them or will the children ruin them with knocks and make me wish I had cheaper doors? Will they make any difference if we end up selling in the future? I can't afford to waste money so need to make the right choice first time round.

Splash out! They make so much difference, and you'll get the pleasure of seeing them long after you've forgotten the price.

Depends on your house I guess... I would never put anything other than white DIY shop doors in this house, splash out on decent handles though, but if you think it's feasable (sp?) to put in better doors, I think you should go for it. It does make a huge difference. My old next door neighbour went from 1970's dark veneer things to really nice white ones, her house completely changed.

trouble is the house is a "modern" house and I love character so I have to be careful but have seen some which are hardwood and look lovely ... to me.

I live in a 200 year old cottage but the decor is quite contemporary as I hate clutter.

So I have pale walls, oak floorboards and and light wood but my doors are 'cottagey' - waxed pine with black stable door type handles and the mix of modern simplicity with the character touches does work well , so don't be afraid to mix some styles.

Meant to add that I'm so glad I have nice doors and didn't just plump for standard ones as it really does make a difference to a room as its such a large 'thing'. You won't regret it if you spend a bit more on them.

thanks emmatomATO that's just what I needed to hear. Now cover your ears next week when I tell my dh how much it will cost to replace our shabby doors. He is lovely so he will just grin and bear it really or at least he should!
