Urgent Passport Needed

I need to get a passport for my 6 month old DS as soon as possible.
I need some space from DH and I want to go stay with his parents for a few weeks to sort out my head.
There isnt an emergency situation as such, so does anybody know in how much time a passport can be processed if applying in person at the office?

I tried to get him one before as we wanted to go away with DH, but they said it had to be an emergency.

Just say "family emergency" and lie if you need to!

Where in the country are you? You can go to London or one of the other Passport offices and just wait that day; my dad got there for opening and was home by that afternoon. He had to wait a few hours but hours is better than days/weeks!

'Family emergency' is excellent. And cry if need be (it worked for me!)

Get there first thing though - I got there midday for mine and didn't get the finished product till the next day.

Im in West Yorks so the nearest is Liverpool- about an hour away.

You can get it same day or next day depending on when you arrive. Obvioulsy you pay more for this privilege. If you go via the post office then you should have it back within 2 weeks at around half the cost. IME it is getting the photos done and countersigned that actually takes me most of my time. I recently went for the standard slow service and posted my application on 22/2 and got the passport back on 5/3.
