Mary costume

Help!

I'm making a Mary costume for dd who's 3. I've not got a great deal of faith she's actually going to wear it so it needs to be as simple and easy as possible.

What do I do about the headdress? Is a blue tea towel acceptable?! And if so, how do I get it to stay on?

Mym mum (I can't sew) used a piece of square white sheet and put a blue head-sized band (a strip of other blue material) round it which she secured somewhere and also elasticated a bit at the back so it wasn't too tight/loose. Hope that helps.
