here

I don't see how these adverts get published!

Surely somewhere along the line someone must say 'hey, hang on, this isn't good, could offend/upset?'

sorry, don't get it?

Disenchanted · 09/03/2008 15:27

Its a motorcycle company that makes safety gear and they are saying

' sorry john who needs a donor lung if one of our motorcyclists has an accident they wont die because our safety gear is great, but you will die because you could of had that lung!'

It took me a minute. The ad is for motorbike safety gear (helmets, I assume) and is saying we make such good helmets that we stop bikers becoming organ donors - ie, they survive accidents. And it's apologising to the man who needs a lung transplant.

Sick.

Disenchanted · 09/03/2008 15:27

The tag line is...

Our apologies to John who needs a donor lung since 2004.

Oh jeeesus. That is absolutely vile. Not even funny bcs shocking, just horrid.

LazyLinePainterJane · 09/03/2008 15:31

It is rather tasteless.

Disenchanted · 09/03/2008 15:34

Just horrid really!

tasteless in the extreme. but presumably it will be targeted at motorcycle magazines. motorcyclists habitually darkly refer to themselves as 'organ donors in waiting' so it kinda refers to an existing tasteless joke, iykwim?

Madlentileater · 09/03/2008 16:11

really awful. A friend knew someone who was an a&e consultant, apparantly they referred to cyclists without helmets as organ donors. DP has survived 2 nasty crashes because he was wearing a helmet, so I take any opportunity to say- WEAR ONE!

Desiderata · 09/03/2008 16:16

It may be tasteless, but I'm afraid that if you ride a motorbike, you're almost certain to be badly injured or killed ... eventually.

Whatever strikes home works.

Disenchanted · 09/03/2008 19:49

Oh yes, no doubt they say lives but to use people who are desperate to live and need organs to advertise your gear seems a bit (or alot) off?!
