and as soon as you buy a new car you write-off 2 grand as soon as you drive it off the forecourt.

What is the point in that

All of my friends recently have been buyint 2 year old x-motibility cars at auction (with the help of my neighbour)

You save sooooooooo much money

Doodle - nope - windy things (tor...)

Youcannotbeserious · 05/03/2008 22:45

Exactly, Fletchaaarr...

We bought a brand new jeep once (the much maligned black X5!) and I was pretty shocked at how much is written off by the first corner.....

oi KM - as soon as we win the lottery - that is his thing - a shelby cobra etc etc. He even drools over the replica one that drives to my work. ANd he HATES american cars

Joolyjoolyjoo · 05/03/2008 22:53

I do think our society has become a "disposable" society, which is a bit sad. So I say Yay! to all the people with old cars!! We have successfully ignored the advertising and the hype and we don't believe you need to put yourself into debt to get from A to B in comfort! I honestly don't care if people think I am poor! I wouldn't go around showing folk my bank statements, so why should I inform them how much money I have? I am a dreadful inverted snob about things like this!

beaniesteve · 05/03/2008 22:53

I earn under £25,000 a year. I had to take out a loan to buy my car. I pay back £116 a month and will be doing so for the next 3 years. My car is a T reg Nissan Micra.

In a months time I will be cycling to work to save on petrol costs. I left a 12 year relationship last year and now have living costs just within my means.

I have my own house, 2 cats, a lovely man.

I feel rich. I am happier than I have been in a long time.

if other people want to judge me on the transport I can afford then F**k them.

Life is about more than the car you drive.

Flibbertyjibbet · 05/03/2008 22:53

Fletchaaarr if you saw my earlier post about DP having a kit car he made before we met, its a COBRA replica. And when we are out in it people don't know its a replica cos it looks and sounds perfect (it has an old style plate on) we've had men leaning out of car windows to take apic!
I know its not the real thing but hey its the next best...
So you can see why we don't mind driving old bangers when we get to go out in that on a Sunday

beaniesteve · 05/03/2008 22:54

Infact life is about more than how other sad people judge you.

flibberty - DH would know it was kit car

the thing is that we have to wind down windows when an astin martin overtakes us on the motorway

So that we can hear the exhaust note -

and tonight he is complaining because I have MY OLD CAR back, and he is finding his 3 year old honda accord "boring" compared to my go-cart

trixymalixy · 05/03/2008 23:09

Some of the wealthiest people i know drive old cars. And the people i know who have flash cars are skint from paying for them.

I resent paying money for cars. It's such a waste of money as they depreciate so rapidly.

pedilia · 05/03/2008 23:10

well sad beanie

pedilia · 05/03/2008 23:11

I meant, well said

thestands · 05/03/2008 23:15

My uncle and aunt are serously wealthy and have both driven the same cars for the last 15 years and the cars were not new to begin with. So no I don't judge someone by their car.
