Dressing up ideas ...any suggestions please?!

I have just found a letter from my dd1's preschool teacher saying that she has to dress up as her favorite book character for Friday. Does anybody have any ideas of a quick, easy and cheap costume that I could rustle up? Any ideas would be gratefully received. I am working today and tomorrow so have very little time to come up with something...in a bit of a panic!!

does she have any "princessy" dressing up clothes? She could go as cinderella!

Do you have a witches costume left over from halloween?

plenty of 'witch' characters (room on the broom, the witch with a twitch, winnie the witch etc)

Got a cat costume? Make a really tall hat out of cardboard and hey presto 'Cat in a Hat'

Best thing to do really is to go with whatever you have and just accessorize

Has she got any books about pirates? That is fairly easy to do. Make patch out of black paper adn elastic. Stripy trousers ro tights, waitcoat (body warmer woudl do) adn a toy pparrot or bird. Lots of 'oooh ar'.

What about little red riding hood? A basket adn red coat with hood?

What books does she like? Maybe you could ask her what she woudl like to dress up as and get her invovled in designing it. That way she could explain proudly what she has made herself (and who it is more to teh point!)

She does like Winnie the Witch so I may go for that as we do have a Halloween costume...although thinking about it I went for a red M&S costume this year so that wouldn't work. I do have a Belle dress which she could wear...just didn't know how practical it would be for the playground but I guess she will manage. I do wish the school wouldn't arrange things like this with such short notice!
