Dh says I am anal because I don't want him to wear outdoor shoes in the bathroom...

he stood on the bath mat in 'em, for God's sake!

He reckons 99.9% of the population would agree with him....

quick poll please?

And I do go in the bathroom in my outdoor shoes very occasionally - usually when I've just come in and am bursting for the loo. But mostly I wear slippers in the house.

I am pre-menstrual, can you tell?

lol janh.

Gobbledigoose · 15/12/2004 23:21

With you, don't like shoes on in the house at all. We all take ours off when we get in. Only if I am absolutely desperate will I run upstairs to the loo with them on but once we move the downstairs loo right next to the front door will eliminate that one!

I'm very anal and don't mind admitting it!

hatterselfamerrymerrychristmas · 15/12/2004 23:53

the anals do indeed have it which is all rather scarey. I would not be bothered at all by this. The only place in the house where I don't like outdoor shoes is on DDs' rug which is cream. And at the moment I haven't got a bathroom anyway. Most of it is in rubble bags in the garage or cardboard boxes in the spare room

spacedonkey · 15/12/2004 23:53

Moo, you're anal and you know it!

Tinker · 16/12/2004 00:03

Non-anal here. Never take my shoes off in the house.

kinderbobsleigh · 16/12/2004 00:29

I actually insist on shoes in the house. I teach flute and piano at home and I just don't want to smell pre teen smelly trainer feet for hours each day.

Rule is ds has to put on his slippers inside, though that's because he climbs onto the furniture (only way he can get seated on the sofa at 21 months).

xmashampermunker · 16/12/2004 00:37

I don't wear shoes in the house, nor does anyone else really. I won't say anything if people are just downstairs as we have laminate, but if they go upstairs I ask them to take their shoes off as I don't like people wearing shoes in the bedrooms or the bathroom - we walk round there barefoot and DS (8 months) is on the floor up there a lot too.

But the main reason is that our carpet is this colour

FairyMum · 16/12/2004 07:12

We don't wear shoes in the house at all. Yuk, how unhygenic. Imagine what you drag into the carpets or floor....

kinderbobsleigh · 16/12/2004 07:18

You drag in lots of nice germs which help you be resist disease and prevent allergies.

kinderbobsleigh · 16/12/2004 07:19

But which don't help you construct a sentence which make sense obviously.

FairyMum · 16/12/2004 07:34

Really? You think filthy floors prevents allergies? How funny!

SantaFio2 · 16/12/2004 07:37

we always wear shoes in thre house

nailpolish · 16/12/2004 07:48

i worried about this when dd's started crawling about the house - imagine if you stood in dog sh*t and didnt know then dragged it in the house then they started crawling about where you had walked. germs are invisible!

we now all take our shoes off at the door. i think its bad for your feet anyway, they cant breathe

pixiefish · 16/12/2004 08:18

we don't wear shoes upstairs at all- in fact we only wear shoes in the hall, take them off when we come in and go barefoot or socks through the rest of the house, saves the carpets and its a little bit cleaner for crawling dd

Joolstide · 16/12/2004 08:20

shoes off at the door please!

ChristmasBOOZA · 16/12/2004 08:44

Well I generally wear my slippers in the house - but seen as how I also wear them for going out to the bin, garage or nipping across the road to visit my friend I'm not doing much for hygiene in the house. I do sort of prescribe to the theory that you can be too clean. Although might be peeved about the bath mat because I've just washed it due to DD weeing on it. Its already got toothpaste and snot on it though.

Prettybird · 16/12/2004 09:09

Shoes worn throughout the house (including the bathroom), although ds is made to take his off if he wants to climb on the furniture.

Both dh and I often change into our Ugg boots - but only becasue they are comnfy and warm, not for any hygiene reasons!

tweetyfish · 16/12/2004 09:35

I'm with the 0.01% i'm afraid, tbh it never occured to me not to wear shoes anywhere in the house !

I don't wear shoes in the house either, but dh does, and it wouldn't bother me either.

Perhaps I'm just a slob ... or perhaps there are more important things to worry about!

TheHollyAndTheTwiglett · 16/12/2004 09:59

Don't wear shoes in the house cos more comfy without shoes

I don't insist guests take theirs off though, but most do out of courtesy when they see DS and I without shoes on

I don't like shoes anywhere carpeted 'cos of rug-rat and there's carpet in there

DingWongMerrilyOnHigh · 16/12/2004 10:01

oh is it tiime for another shoes indoors thread?

Definitely not! No way no how, unless it is a very dainty lady visitor in strappy sandals. Everyone else kicks them off by the front door.

As for outdoor shoes in the bathroom - yuck!

hoxtonturkey · 16/12/2004 10:04

fairy mum, kinderbobsleigh was talking about the hygiene hypothesis which is a well respected theory.

tunise · 16/12/2004 12:43

Slippers in house for me, but only for comfort not hygiene. Dh and kids can wear what they like as long as it's not covered in mud. I do think people worry too much about germs. Actually the idea of guest slippers seems stranger to me than outdoor shoes in bathroom!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 16/12/2004 12:54

An "anal" vote from the Dragon house.

And can I pick up on whoever has guest slippers. YUCK! I'm not putting my feet inside slippers that have been worn by umpteen strangers
