Hi all,

I currently am in the process of buying a house - the mortgage offer accepted (due to expire December), however the seller is in a chain.

They have been very slow in responding to solicitor queries and the latest after about 2 months of chasing is that they are in a chain and now are waiting for their seller to find a place. I am currently renting so would like to move as soon as possible wnd also worried that things are going too slow.

any advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation? Is there anything I can do to safeguard myself or have sone sort of agreement in hand - just feels very odd to continue waiting another few months not really knowing what is happening and having the risk of losing my mortagge offer also.

do you think my mortgage broker could help at all or is it solely down to the solicitors now. (Who are shyte to be honest)

Most banks and building societies will extend your mortgage offer for an additional month if you don't complete on time because others are being too slow. They hold the same rate of interest for you. I had to do this because the man I was buying from kept going to Spain, where it turned out he spends 6 months of the year as he has a holiday home there, and not signing documents before he went. I had to say unless we exchange contracts before the end of the month I am pulling out of the sale as I have insurance to do that. This was after 6 months of his dithering around and his solicitor kept saying he's gone to Spain on holiday but his holidays lasted about 6-8 weeks each time. He'd come back and sign something then a week later be gone again.
