Cancel holiday?

In January I booked a family holiday in Cornwall and I've been looking forward to it a lot, as have the kids. The forecast seems to indicate it is going be strong winds and relentless rain for the next few weeks. To cancel or not to cancel? If I can get most of my money back, I feel it would be silly to drive ten hours to spend a week on a soggy beach :( But should we brave it? Kids are 3 and 7. I just don't think they will cope well stuck indoors - it will be hell. We are staying in a hostel so no pool or lolling about possible...

See if you can get your money back and if you can't let us know where youll be staying and we can give some advice on wet weather ideas.

Hi @OrdinaryWorm i went to Cornwall last year, alot of stuff to do is outdoors. I would cancel and try get some of your money back.

Tapasgoofy · 22/07/2023 15:14

I’d cancel.

Lilly11a · 22/07/2023 15:15

We ve just got back from Looe and the weather was mostly sunny if not massively warm

Winds and lashing rain I'd definitely cancel. Scattered showers would be doable but a constant downpour would be miserable. Cornwall in sunny weather is spectacular.

That's not especially helpful for OP, who is going next week...

OP, does your holiday provider have other accommodation? Could you swap to, eg, a hotel with pool and indoor activities, or a different location in the UK? Cornwll in pouring rain with young kids doesn't sound brilliant, I'm afraid. So much is outdoors.

OliviaFlaversham · 22/07/2023 15:24

I’d also cancel if possible as 10 hours travel is costly so even if you lose a bit, it could still be worth it.

AppleKatie · 22/07/2023 15:25

I’d go. But I’d plan ruthlessly now so that there’s no staring out the window thinking ‘what on earth will we do today’ when it’s 9am lashing rain and the kids have been up since 5 😂

greenacrylicpaint · 22/07/2023 15:40

go
take rain gear
plan things for every day

warm bath at night

hot chocolate

it's the 'shit' holidays that are memorable.

Another one who’d just go and make the most of it, you don’t say when you’re meant to go, but the long(ish) range forecast isn’t the most reliable anyhow. You could get lucky 😊
